Bottle. Black pour with dark brown bubbles. Aroma is huge grapy notes, heavy chocolate and caramel. Taste is along the same lines. Intensely sweet chocolate on top of a layer of sweet grapes. Enjoyable in minimal portions. The sweetest stout aged in the sweetest wine barrels, it should have rung a bell...

czar (4540) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 24, 2014
bottle shared with friends. pours unclear if not a bit murky dark brown with a small beige cap, little retention and no lacing. per say. sweet burnt nuts and raisins, molasses, tannins, slightly disturbing soy sauce and beef concentrate, bg fatty and sweet red grapes, balsamic notes, pepper, lots of booze - warming. light to low carbonation, medium to full body - oily, thick and sweet, in fact it is cloying, astringent-woody and sweet raisiny finish. moscatel imparted just too much of fragrant and some undesirable molecules to this already over-the-hill concoction. still.. enjoyed! as opposed to my buddies..

Bottle shared at a tasting. Dark but not opaque, mahogany when held up to light. Aroma of rich chocolate fudge, intense winey notes, raisins, sunscreen lotion, very perfumy. Taste is chocolatey, boozy winey flavors, some soy notes. Palate is slick, sweet and rich. Nothing like some of the better BA DLs.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2014 Bottle shared by Luk_, thanks! Pours a dark brown with an offwhite rim that leaves some lacing. Nose is really sweet, offers a lot of chocolate and caramel with some nuts and alcohol. Taste is of intense chocolate, really sweet as well but also offers some spices and grapes. Body is full and sticky, carbonation really low and enhancing the heavy feel. Alcohol content is almost completely hidden, a miracle! Or maybe it is the insane amount of residual sugar... Overall it wasn’t bad but not particularly enjoyable, way too heavy/sugary to be consumed in large quantities. Check.

Bottle (22 oz). Shared by Luk_, thanks! Dark brown with mahogany reflects, almost no head and little lacing. Aroma is scarily sweet with caramel, tons of raisins, nutmeg and soy sauce. Taste is as expected intensely sweet and cloying with again a metric ****ton of raisins along brown sugar, nutmeg and vinous notes. Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Chewy mouthfeel with vinous presence. Warming finish. Ever lasting sweetness. By far the worst of the barrel aged Dark Lord I tried so far. Way too sweet, cloying and raisins forward. Three sips was too much for me. Drain pour.
