26.02.2014, 0,65l bottle (2013) sampled @ MAD Beer Brewing release @ Mielcke & Hurtigkarl:
No head, just some bubbles. Aroma is like putting the nose in a bag of dried red chillies. There is just an insane amount of red chillies in this one, very grassy chili-like, dark malts, spices, dark sugar, grass. Taste is slightly sweet spiced, dark sugar, dark malts, chili, grass, oak, vanilla, chocolate. Medium bitterness, nice not too powerful chili touch compared to the aroma. Nice one.

Finally my friend made it down to visit me in FL.and he brought some FFF that I have not had..This had a
sweet chocolate aroma, The flavor was very sweet and the barrel aged did not over take the flavor of the beer like most do.For being 15% the alcohol is very well hidden. This could use a year or so of sitting to take some of the sweetness away and let the flavors blend more, overall not a bad beer and I do like the Darklord so I was happy to try this one.CHEERS!

Black with a good chocolate head. Aroma is brandy, chocolate, vanilla, oak. Velvety mouthfeel, smooth on the palate , sweet but better balanced than the regular version. Taste is chocolate, apple brandy, raisins, figs, dates, muscat. Delicious!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep greige, fast gone head over brown-red rimmed black beer. Bourbon, roasted/burnt coffee, chocolate, vanilla, cigarette ashes. Sweet - very sweet - but with a burnt toffee lining. Dark brown sugar, molasses, syrup. Sticky, oozy feel; full bodied, rich and cloying. Too bl**dy sweet, however bad the craze may be!

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
660 ml bottle - kindly shared by Dennoman at the preBBF13 hotel room tasting with FX Cannelle and Romain VeryNiceGuy. Pours intensely dark black as night, oily and very viscous. Aroma of soy sauce, oyster sauce, tiny acidity hidden behind a bomb of sweetness and odd fish aromas. The mouthfeel is killed by artificial alike sweetness. The taste/flavours are roasted malts, aftertaste give some hints of peach and muscat wine. Overall: still lots of the DL character (boooo) and waaaay too sweet, lacking balance. Sorry to ruin the speculation party here, but seriously, this is not a good imperial stout.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
750ml orange waxed bottle served in a FFF mini snifter.
A: Pours a viscous black color with a thin dark brown head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring, some splotches of lace are left down the glass.
S: Lots of fruity wine notes with a heavy sweetness. Dark fruits, oak and some green grape as well. Roasted malts with the heavy DL chocolate sweetness.
T: Way too sweet. Lots of oak and dark chocolate with a fruity, grapey wine presence. The barrel imparts an over the top fruity sweetness to an already sweet beer.
M: Medium to heavy bodied with a medium low carbonation. Sweet finish with a sticky mouthfeel.
O: Way too sweet. The barrel doesnít help in cutting some of the sweetness and just adds sweet, fruity notes to the base.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Great Big old courtesy toss from TheAlum @ the Edmunds-Harrold wedding reception... I thought it was a Phaleslu courtesy, goes to show that I donít know who is tossing me a courtesy at any given moment.
The beer pours basically black with a small tan espresso swirl head.
The aroma is chocolate with some charp alcohol, fudge, & brandy. Itís big and sweet smelling with mild vinous notes.
The flavor is fudgy with some sharp alcohol, dark chocolate, lots of honey, some odd white grape character, the bitterness in this one is subdued & itís got a real strange spiciness to it. Itís a real strange flavor profile for an Imperial Stout, but I dig it for sure.
As always the beer is very thick, viscous, & mouth coating.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottles shared by thuggins. Pours dark cola brown/black with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet, dark fruit, chocolate, moscatel barrel notes, wood, caramel and light coffee. The flavor has a big sweet character, barrel influences, molasses, chocolate, wood, caramel, smooth and doesnít really show the 15%, but big flavor nonetheless. Some tart vinous character comes through. I thought the port barrel was even sweeter than this. I have liked the barrel aging, but they have been better in the past.
