4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Huge thanks to phaleslu for sharing this gem! Tasted 7/8/11. 22oz bomber. Bottle #186/484. Pours pitch black with a trace ring of head. Creamy and rounded aromas with a mild vanilla note. Notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Good alcohol note in the olfactory. Full bodied and the barrel aging is nicely melded. Very creamy with the oak notes really apparent and adding another dimension to the palate. Great use of the barrel; it adds to the overall palate, but also to the alcohol nuance. Truly awesome!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled from bottle during a vertical 2004-2012 line-up of all DLs, during a beer tasting weekend - in the cellar of Chez Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles. Notes include main characteristics in aroma and flavour components.
2012 Bourbon BA DL - bottle 197/685 - bourbon, vanilla, molasses, some chocolate. 3.8/5
2012 Boubon Vanilla DL - bottle 921/934 - chocolate, vanilla, sherry... Aroma makes one think of a vanilla scented cancle (no shit). 3/5
2012 Cognac Vanilla DL - bottle 409/534 - green coffee beans, green paprica, spicy notes. No Cognac scent at all. 3/5
2012 Cognac De Muerte DL - bottle 203/817 - cacao, pepper and peppers scent. Taste is very hot due to the peppers but take away most of the taste - pity (not as balanced as for example the Hunahpu) 3.3/5
2011 PVW Bourbon BA DL - bottle 261/484 - thanks Jeffo! - lots of bourbon, but beautifully embedded in the whole aroma palet. The first DL I really dig. Vanilla, coconut, chocolate. Best of the vertical. 4.2/5
2011 Brandy BA DL - bottle 185(?)/312(?) - a sour pinch to the basic DL character, cherries. 3.2/5
2011 Brandy Vanilla DL - bottle 403/433 - loooots of chocolate. 3.1/5

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle @ Stouts Tasting Pt III: Brokeback Edition. Massive thanks to Kenny for pulling this out of nowhere. The pour’s deep brown. Tiny head. Very viscous and oily in appearance. The nose is extraordinarily lush. Huge dark chocolate. Cake icing sweetness. Hints of rum raisin cake. Milk vanilla and toasted coconut. Hints of bourbon barrel. Vanilla’s a bit more upfront in the taste. Slightly tangy chocolate-dipped raisins. Light boozy wood in the finish. Loads of chocolate. Quite sweet and decandent. Very oily and full-bodied. Still, this is pretty smooth. I took no time to polish off my sample. Overall, maybe the best variant I’’ve had. Great.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Stout 3 & Freestyle Tasting, massive thanks to Ken! It pours very dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. The nose is toasted coconut, oily, toffee, fudge, tablet, chocolate gateaux, light soy sauce and vanilla. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, sweet fudge, salted liquorice, soy sauce, coconut, bourbon, vanilla, warming alcohol and oak. Full body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Pretty sweet, yet mellow and well-balanced. Solid stuff.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 17, 2013 Bottle shared at the Stouts Pt. III & Others: The Brokeback Tasting - London. Massive thanks to Kenny the Great for finding this at the back of his fridge. Pours clear, black brown with a faint, beige foam head. Lots of rich bread, brownies, chocolate cake and soy sauce in the nose. Big sweet flavor, lots of molasses, some brownies, light earth, vanilla, brown sugar, sweet bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, tons of creamy dark sugars, boat loads of molasses, moderate chocolate, heavy bread, restrained booze, further vanilla, soft burnt wood. Really delicious stuff. Quite a sipper. I do enjoy a nice, sweet Dark Lord variant.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Syrupy black body, zero head. Delicious blend of Pappy and roasty malts swarm my palate, delivered by a massively viscous body. Bourbon integrates perfectly with the base, transforming the overly sweet, mediocre DL into one of the very best imperial stouts on the planet.
I find people hyper-inflate anything that touches Pappy, but that's certainly not the case here. Marvelous; absolutely world class.

Opaque black - brown beer. Decent tan head. Smooth soft palate, viscous body. Mild minerals. Rich sweet dark malt. Sweet bourbon and coconut. A little vanilla. Mild dark fruits. Finishes softish and semi dry. Actually hides the abv quite well! Soft sumptuous tasty treat!

3/I/13 - 75cl bottle @ De Hopduvel - 2011 vintage - bottle #461/484 (2013-3) Huge thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!
Clear dark brown beer, no head. Aroma: lots of caramel, vanilla, mocha, dried fruits, more vanilla, bit sugary, some alcohol. Very intense aroma. MF: no carbon, full body. Taste: lots of caramel, vanilla, chocolate milk, more vanilla, dark caramel, fudge, sugary, pretty acidic touch (or is that the alcohol?). Aftertaste: lots of chocolate, vanilla, pretty boozy, alcohol warming the throat, brown sugar, caramel, rum raisins, bit earthy. Not as overly sweet as most of the other versions, bit boozy but not too much.
