Bottle shared by dedollewaitor, thanks a bunch bro’. Black body with a small offwhite head. Port, dark chocolate, roasted malt, sweet berries, ripe fruit, caramel. Wow so awesome.

Bottle @ Very Warm Random Summer - Whalez Tasting with Hallinghansen. Trade with Trevor. Thanks. Pours black with a small creamy beige head. Molasses, port, wood, salty licorice and coffee. Big sipper. Warming alcohol. Heavy Stuff.

Bottle shared at Mikkeller Bar during CBC weekend 2014 by the incomparably generous Ken. Crazy beer. Pours oily black with a creamy tan head. The nose holds dark fruits, cocoa, roast, burnt bread. Big sweet flavor with buckets of liquefied fruits, gooey chocolate, raisins, prunes, figs, mellow bitterness. Full bodied, thick and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, sticky and sugary sweet, with loads more ripe dark fruits, raisins, brown sugar, chocolate. Big port character. Bulky but divine.

750ml bottle shared at Mikkeller Bar, Victoriagade, Copenhagen. Black color with beige-brown head. Roasted malty aroma, chocolate and coffee, light wood and fruity. Taste is sweet and bitter like the aroma. Almost full creamy body with flat to soft carbonation.

2013 bottle. Deep, delightful aroma of cloying port, sticky soy sauce, moderate wet oak, brown sugar, and slightly faded boozy heat. Pours flat dark brown with ruby traces at the edge. Holy shit! The taste is incredibly sublime; perfectly mellow port blends with dark chocolate, oxidized cherry, mild vanilla, tepid booze, and a faint sugary vinous finish. Medium body with very smooth texture. OK, I finally understand the (well-justified) hype surrounding barrel-aged Dark Lords.

bottle with friends. pours very dark brown with a light beige cap showing some retention and lacing. dark molasses, dense milk chocolate, astringent wood, very raisiny, red wine and port, cloying sweetness - chocolate and maple syrup. light carbonation, medium to full body, sweet and assertive woody-astringent finish. swillfully enjoyed!

Bottle 22oz. Pours black with low beige head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is of chocolate, sweetness, roasted malt, apples. Taste is of chocolate, port wine, roasted malt, lots of sugar, wood, apples. Palate: Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Sticky but silky. Overall: Loads of sugar. Pretty good. Nice barrel action.

Pours a dark brown with a dark beige head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of brown sugar, chocolate, caramel. Taste is really swee but not cloying, offers chocolate sauce flavors and vanilla. Overall this felt like drinking a chocolate milkshake, albeit a 15% one. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden, though. A liquid chocolate cake.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Oily black pour with ring of orange brown foam. Aroma of port, rich, boozy, powdery cocoa, light licorice notes, light spice, oaky. Taste is sweet, lots of fudge, molasses, chocolate, winey port notes. Palate is slick and rich, light carbonation. Masses better than Moscatel.

Bottle (22 oz). From Mykel, thanks! Deep black with a small persistent brown head and little lacing. Aroma is of port, chocolate, heavy sweetness, roasted malt, boozy notes, dark fruits, berries and light soy sauce. Taste is very sweet, but a bit balance by the port and light acidic notes. There’s also chocolate, roasted malt and a nice fruitiness. Full bodied. Soft/moderate carbonation. Fluffy mouthfeel. A bit oily and vinous too. Warming finish. The port presence help the balance. Rich and complex, but still too sweet. So much better than the Moscatel version that we had the day before, but still short of Bourbon and Bourbon Vanilla. We also had the Special Kay from Struise - also port barrel aged - the day before and, at a significantly higher abv the Struise one is still so much more drinkable and enjoyable.
