Bottle shared with a bunch of folks. Had Dark Lord bourbon barrel the same day and it just wasn't up to par. Still better than most beer out there. Got hints of the port flavor on the backend. Never drink too many good beers all in one day. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark brown with a dark beige head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of brown sugar, chocolate, caramel. Taste is really swee but not cloying, offers chocolate sauce flavors and vanilla. Overall this felt like drinking a chocolate milkshake, albeit a 15% one. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden, though. A liquid chocolate cake.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Oily black pour with ring of orange brown foam. Aroma of port, rich, boozy, powdery cocoa, light licorice notes, light spice, oaky. Taste is sweet, lots of fudge, molasses, chocolate, winey port notes. Palate is slick and rich, light carbonation. Masses better than Moscatel.

Bottle (22 oz). From Mykel, thanks! Deep black with a small persistent brown head and little lacing. Aroma is of port, chocolate, heavy sweetness, roasted malt, boozy notes, dark fruits, berries and light soy sauce. Taste is very sweet, but a bit balance by the port and light acidic notes. There’s also chocolate, roasted malt and a nice fruitiness. Full bodied. Soft/moderate carbonation. Fluffy mouthfeel. A bit oily and vinous too. Warming finish. The port presence help the balance. Rich and complex, but still too sweet. So much better than the Moscatel version that we had the day before, but still short of Bourbon and Bourbon Vanilla. We also had the Special Kay from Struise - also port barrel aged - the day before and, at a significantly higher abv the Struise one is still so much more drinkable and enjoyable.

Very sweet but not really. Not the typical way I think of sweetness in a beer. Not sugary.Malt, a little alcohol, port, rich, dark fruit. Super sweet tasting however. Very heavy and sweet. dark fruit

Bottle # 457. Been sitting for a little over a year now. Happy birthday to me. Pours deep black. Small partly lasting brown head. Aroma large and decadent. Port, rich dark fruit, sweet but not exactly sugary, some soy sauce but not nearly as much as the year old ’13 Dark Lord we had the other night, a hint of smooth alcohol (port). Perhaps chocolate in the shadows, but this showcases the port and dark fruit. Full body. Luscious. Soft. Smooth. Slick and sticky. Hints of woodiness and spiciness. For everything I said about the aroma I could say about the flavor. The port barrel treatment perfectly compliments this beer. Again, to compare this to the year old ’13 dark lord we had the other night, the ’gaps’ and pot holes that opened up with the age were perfectly filled in by the port barrel. Alcohol is virtually non existent, even at 15%!. Great drinkability. I was afraid this would let me down but it totally exceeded my expectations. If this beer came from another brewery, people would be knocking each other over for it. Enjoyed to the last drop.

Taste has raisins, sugar, molasses, port, wood, chocolate and alcohol. Very sweet and smooth with well hidden alcohol.
