2007 22 oz bottle courtesy of Adrian. Smells of vanilla extract, dark fruit, molasses, and brown sugar. Dark brown, almost black in colour. Looks like motor oil. Tastes of coffee, vanilla, dark fruit, molasses and alcohol. The taste was a bit of a letdown after someone built it up so much. Smooth taste/flavour. Got better with ever sip.

Totally lived up to it fame, and worth the trip to DLD 2009. Is thick and black with tons of complexity. Has roasted coffee, vanilla, plums with bitter finish. I need to try this one aginst some other Imp Stous soon.

Dark and oily with no real head. Smooth as can be and velvety soft. Creamy molasses flavor with strong coffee and vanilla highlights. Lots of color left behind in the glass. Much sweeter than other imperial stouts, and very well balanced. Unique and deserving of its fame.

2008 bottle for breakfast on DLD 2009. Has a strong semi-sweet chocolate nose. Strong coffee tones and dark fruits. Black and opaque. Not a shred of light getting through. Dark tan head, thick and creamy leaving massive lace. Complex flavor of sweet chocolate, coffee, alcohol, roasted malt and maybe caramel. Completely coats the mouth. Perfect mouth feel like a milk shake. All imp stouts should have a mouth feel like this one!

500th rating!! 2008 bottles courtesy of ygtbsm94 and lampeno420, cheers guys. Aroma has notes of coffee, dark chocolate, dried dark fruits, vanilla, and molasses. Black in the glass with a small mostly diminishing brown head that left little lace. Flavor is syrupy sweet and quite bitter on the finish. Palate is very full bodied and oily soft. I have been searching for this beer for years and years. This marks the end of a great beer quest.

650 ml bottle at Toncatcher’s house, shared with Padrefan, Fordest and a few others. This was the black wax 2008, provided by Noblesquirrel via trade. Thanks man. Pours a high viscosity black with no head. The aroma is strong with licorice, plums, anise and burnt toast. The flavor is more of the same, lots of deep dark roasted malts, vanilla, dark fruits and black licorice. The finish is long and cloying. The mouthfeel is full and creamy, absolutely perfect. Overall: I can understand the appeal, and the hype, that this beer has garnered. It is quite good.

Thick, pungent, deliscious. Rich, creamy, caustic, along wih a plethora of many other adjectives. My problem with this is the hype, I find it not worth it, primarity when considering Bell’s expdition stout. The head was too light and the viscosity to low. Aside from that, it is very bitter and increasingly smooth at it rides around in your glass. Flavor of over ripened bananas and rum cake. Thank you Daknole.
