GMCC2181 (848), Bear, Delaware, USA Aug 12, 2008 Updated: Sep 6, 2008Bottle courtesty of StFun. Black wax. Color...Black as black can get, no head. Aroma of malt and minor hint of coffee. Taste is very malty with a hint of vanilla, roasted grains, and chocolate. No trace of alcohol in the taste. The after taste has a nice little bitterness to it. Thick motor-oil texture. Slick and grainy at the same time. Definitley a well crafted beer, that could use some age, I am sure it would only get better. Good beer but not great. Thanks again josh for standing in line for over 5 hours in the blistering sun, just so I could enjoy this beer. I owe you one!****UPDATE***** Pretty much think the same thing as before.... This beer is just missing something in the flavor catagory. dchmela (1411), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 12, 2008 2008 bottle courtesy Rogueone. Is this an evil enough beer for my 666th rating? Good enough! Pours thick and oily black with a dark tan head. Very thck and coating of the glass. Roasted grain, chocolate and vanilla aroma. Thick chocolate malt taste with lots of roasty grains and vanilla. Thick dark chocolate, bitter aftertaste. Worth the hype. badlizard (2326), Berkeley, California, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bottle from ebay. Black with a fizzy brown head. Sweet chocolate and coffee aroma. Tastes of dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, cinnamon, and alcohol taste. Excellent. It takes on a really nice tobacco quality as it warms. This is really quite a good beer! darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Aug 10, 2008 22oz bottle from 07. Huge thanks to Growler for bringing this. Massive aroma, with tons of soy sauce and dark chocolate. Cherry and figs figure in. Midnight black pour with a nice dark chocolate head. Taste is incredible and matches the flavor. Tons of soy sauce, vanilla, cherry, chocolate and a bit of caramel. Very complex with a thick oily mouthfeel. This is a remarkable beer. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Aug 10, 2008 Draft on tap at the Taste of the Midwest. Extremely dark and slightly reddish. Thick and rich with little to no head. Flavor of dark chocolate, molasses, and dried fruit. Rich palate with long duration. Very good. douglas88 (1559), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Aug 10, 2008 Updated: Aug 11, 2008Wow, it has been a long time coming, 2007 bottle shared generously by footbalm. Pours a pure black body with a medium swirling beige head that goes down quickly to nothing almost. The aroma is full of so much; molasses, berries, coffee, chocolate. Basically this is what Brussels would smell like if the whole city was burning. The flavor was simply amazing; tons of fruit, especially berries initially, chocolates, milk, brown sugar and roasted flavors cover everything. A smooth and dry finish of chocolates and coffee. One of the best mouthfeels ever; smooth and creamy and so very full. I was very surprised by how smooth this was, so drinkable I could drink this at six AM. Let me hope I do someday. Amazing. nimbleprop (822), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 7, 2008 Scored two 22oz bottles of this rarity thanks to a trade with TPaliga. Thanks Tim! Popped this 2008 bottle at an imperial stout tasting I held and everyone attending was pumped to sample this. Looks dangerous, completely opaque black, thick and oily with a creamy tan head. Aroma of whiskey, wood, and cane sugar with just the slightest touch of citrus. Flavors of raisins, molasses, toast, maple, salty soy, dark cocoa and perhaps some beets. Really smooth on the tongue and thick and a little syrupy down the throat. Definitely worth the hype. Zbong (38), Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 7, 2008 Pours black with a dark brown head. Wow...chocolate, coffee, smoke, oak. Amazing....I am struggling with the urge to chug the whole bomber it tastes that good.
