3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 humlelala (684) - - OCT 19, 2012(65 cl bottle, 2012 vintage courtesy of steasy66, huge thanks!) Pours pitch black with little, toffee head. Good lace. Aroma is roasted malt with notes of rye bread, smoke, syrup, coffee and a hint of vanilla. Creamy texture, viscous, full body, soft to no carbonation and a sweet, roasted finish. Taste is mostly sweet and filling to the point of being cloying with hints of dark fruit. Alcohol is well masked by the massive layer of sweetness. I find this one too sweet to be really enjoyable, though.

2011- Pours a dark black with a nice tan head. nose is of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. As for taste its a nice roasted bitter coffee and molasses. I do get a bit of a port wine taste in the aftertaste. No alchohol whats so ever on this. Good but definetlly not my favorite RIS.

This was the 2012. Very thick consistency. Bourbon/alchohol aroma. Very rich and heavy which I expect from an IS. Very sweet taste, a little more than I prefer. After ageing a year, no carbonation at all. Like drinking a liquor.

Poured at the epic AZ crews’ driveway tasting curtesy of dcschiller I am pretty sure. Its been embarrassing being on this site for so many years and not having ever tasted this. This was 2011 version pours jet black with huge nose of bourbon and molasses. tastes of chocolate, bourbon, molasses, coffee, woody, light vanilla, soy sauce, resin, and licorice. probably too sweet for my normal palate but today it worked just fine.

Crazy sweetness! Pours black with thin red head. This beer has a ton of syrup-like sweetness that is way overpowering of the vanilla and coffee.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JanLaursen (2149) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 5, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 6, 2013 From tap, CBC 2013. Deep dark blackness with a head so small, you might argue that it is not there at all. Aroma is roasted malt, syrup, vanilla, nuts, smooth coffee. Thick oily texture, full body, very low carbonation. Very sweet, dark fruity flavor, with well hidden alcohol, leading to a sweet, roasted finish. Too sweet for my palate, but well crafted and somehow even well balanced. Not worth the hype, though.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Benfi (282) - DENMARK - MAY 5, 2013
Pours viscous. Blackest black. Tight creamy brown head, partially lasting, drippy brown lace. Aroma is chocolate, roasty, some coffee, sweet dark fruit, caramel apple, vanilla, a little alcohol. Flavor fully compliments aroma. Thick, full, creamy, slightly syrupy body. Soft carbonation. Wow. Delicious. Sweet and bitter beautifully balanced. The nicest soft alcohol warming in the stomach. finish that lasts and lasts. Complex and accessible.
