This is the beer to end all beers. This is the standard all others must meet. The pour is dark thick and fragrant. Notes of coffee and chocolate waft from the glass. The taste is dark deep and complex. Vanilla comes through the darkness. The beer is very cloying on the palate. If there was one beer left to drink in the world till the end of time this is the one. I tried to be critical of this beer but it’s everything a beer could be.

Black and roasty. Sweet and full body with a taste of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, licorice and a bit of vanilla. I’ve now had this one 3-4 times over the past year and there’s not doubt it’s really good. Grossly overrated but a solid beer nevertheless. I’ve rated it slightly under the vanilla version but I may have rated that one a bit too high though.

Few awesome things have a perfect run. The 2012 version of Dark Lord is known as the least successful vintages in Three Floyds’ awesome lineup. Perfect or not, though, this is still motherlovin’ Dark Lord. Having the chance to drink one is an amazing experience, no matter the year. It poured pitch black and virtually headless. Aroma was very fruity with cherry, apple, and syrup. Flavor has a lot of sweetness, and yes, sad to say that apple juice flavor dominates the whole thing. However, there were some touches of cream and toasted dark fruit. Mouthfeel was exceptionally smooth. While I definitely want to try a better vintage, having the "worst" Dark Lord is akin to listening to the "worst" Beatles album. It’s still enjoyable and better than a hell of lot else of what’s out there.

(Thanks Josh, "StFun") Bottle. A- Green apples, dark fruits, chocolate. A- Black color, black liquid, minimal brown head. T- Green apples, red apples, dark fruits, chocolate, sweet. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, sweet finish. O- Damn. My holy grail beer since I got into craft and I finally get a bottle, a 2012/red wax to be exact and it was hit with acetaldehyde, tons of green apple in here. So much for it being the best beer I’ve ever got to try. It certainly wasn’t pitiful. A green apple tasting stout makes for an interesting drink. I researched a bit and found out that in fact the 2012 bottling had this issue. Oh well, still got to finally try DL! Maybe the next time it’ll be a better bottle. Still getting a solid rating from me, although probably not what it could be. Did I mention I finally got to try a Dark Lord!?

Pretty good. Had a 2010 bottle today. Most the 3 floyds stuff I have had so far hasn't been great but this was.

On tap at CBC- København. Pitch black color, good brownish foam. High aroma intensity ; roasted, licorice, leather, malt. Full body & high complexity . Some sweetness- then some bitterness, ends up a little on the sweet side. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Braved the rain this year at Dark Lord Day to get my hands on an allotment of Dark Lord. Pours pitch black with a nice mocha head. Aroma is heavy in chocolate, dates, cherries, and prunes with some slight roasted malt, coffee, and black liquorice notes. Taste is really sweet for an imperial stout, a little dry and an almost imperceptible bitter bite in the finish. Full bodied, good carbonation, and thick and creamy on the palate. Quite unique for an imperial stout and overall pretty close to perfection.
