crizay (1070), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Mar 25, 2006 Updated: Jan 22, 2008 Huge thanks to EBoats for bringing this beauty to Tampa, and to Degarth for holding it for 2 weeks and not drinking it. Orange waxed bottle. I was so excited to try this. Pours a thick oily pitch black, huge awesome looking mocha head, and leaves great lacing. Aroma is some bourbon, dark chocolate, espresso, and sweet alcohol. Flavors are espresso bigtime, coffee, dark chocolate, amazingly smooth and creamy, dark fruits, more creamy espresso, slight black licorice, espresso stays the whole time. The more it warms it seems to get sweeter, it’s a sweet alcohol espresso flavor. Very drinkable beer the alcohol is hardly there and it’s damn smooth.
Beershine (1201), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 At Vero, kisses to whoever shared it! Thick, viscous pour of pure blackness. Really intense nose packed with coffee and chocolate purity. Smooth, smooth, incredible. Raisins dancing. Complex, gorgeous, and viscous. A superlative brew, fully deserving of the hype. Had the 2008 Dark lord and figured it would make a good 100’s rating. The beer poured very thick and looked much like motor oil does that has not been changed for a long time. There was a small off white head. The aroma was very strong, a little fruity and sweet. There was also a subtle note of coffee. The flavor was a little sweet for my taste but was well balanced between dark fruits chocolate and coffee. This is one fine beer. Cheers! EricE (209), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Aug 18, 2008 I didn’t think this stuff could possibly live up to its hype, but its one fucking good beer. Thick motor oil like pour. Thickest beer I’ve ever had. It left a residue on my glass. Dark tan head. Creamy vanilla and chocolate aroma, with raisins and chocolate. Intense sweetness, almost overwhelming, with a very creamy, fruity taste. Chocolaty with molasses. Very oaky with bourbon. Like drinking a glass of port. Fantastic, I docked it a point for being a bit too sweet. smith4498 (332), Miami, Florida, USA Aug 17, 2008 Big thanks to growler for sharing a bottle of the 2007 vintage. Pours deep black with small brown head. Aromas of chocolate, soy sauce and burnt malts. Flavors are similar to the aromas. This is not as sweet as I was expecting and it is also much smoother. Full body with minimal carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. GMCC2181 (344), Bear, Delaware, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle courtesty of StFun. Black wax. Color...Black as black can get, no head. Aroma of malt and minor hint of coffee. Taste is very malty with a hint of vanilla, roasted grains, and chocolate. No trace of alcohol in the taste. The after taste has a nice little bitterness to it. Thick motor-oil texture. Slick and grainy at the same time. Definitley a well crafted beer, that could use some age, I am sure it would only get better. Really good beer but not great. Thanks again josh for standing in line for over 5 hours in the blistering sun, just so I could enjoy this beer. I owe you one!
