Vintage 2010. Poured into a snifter. Pours gluggingly a deep black. Sits heavy in the glass, and from it proceeds a thick mocha frothy head. The aroma is reminiscent of a stepping into the dwellings of a chocolatier. Big sweet chocolate notes, licorice, ethanol burn on the end. The body is warm, viscous, and palate-coating. Has held up well after 2 years of utter darkness. Subtle carbonation play on the tongue. Starts out with a sweet kiss of milk chocolate. The sweetness melds well with the mildly bitter character, but then the soy sauce-like flavor kicks in. Alcohol is noticeable, and adds a nice touch of warmness on the back end. This is good, though, this beer seems lacking somehow. Glad I had it, and glad I aged it, but I’d like a fresh one to compare it to, no doubt.

2009; The aroma is malt, coffee, figs, vanilla and roasty. Pours Black with basically no head. The taste is bitter. The body is full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish bitter. OK Wow this is really good! The years haven’t hurt it any, in fact probably helped. Lots of flavor no alcohol. Glad I have more of this aging!

From a shared 2014 bomber in a taster glass. Flavor is sweet, slightly chocolatey, malty, slightly fruity, moderate alcohol burn. Quite good and well balanced. Don’t understand the hype, but good.

Bottle at a big tasting (Nörprovning 2015). We tried the 2008, 2009 and 2010 versions. The 2010 was the best so I used the score from that beer. The 2008 and 2009 was much sweeter then the 2010. 2008 was the most roasted. Dark malty and nutty smell with some roasted sugar. Sweet taste with roasted sugar, dark malts, roasted sugar. Awsome beer!

Bottle received from elyts_dlo, cheers! Pours a deep motor-oil black with a slight brown head. Aroma is vanilla and cocoa. Taste is vanilla, milk chocolate and slight cloying caramel. Full bodied with a silky texture.

Bottle ’13, tasted side by side with Huna and Darkness. Pitch black with a tan head. Nose is sweet, vanilla and milk chocolate. Taste is sugary, syrup, oily, vanilla, milk chocolate and some caramel. A bit too sweet and cloying but still solid!

2013 version on draft at Dark Lord Day 2014. Dark, mostly opaque brown with bet limited khaki head. Aroma is vanilla, bourbon, dark fruit, and coffee. Very sticky though somewhat thin for an RIS. Taste is vanilla, light coffee and oyster sauce. Very good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A- bam. Pours a syrupy deep cola brown with thin ring of medium khaki head and no lacing. S- just mince meat, rhubarb and soy sauce. Some middling chocolate and figs. A little charcoal, and soil. M- full body with a strong oily character. T- so cloying. Chocolate covered cherries, port, Terry's milk chocolate orange, vinegar tang and lemon. Raisins, grasses and a meatiness in the middle. Ending is dry and efficient with some lingering plastic chocolate candies, toffee, molasses, caramel and hops.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2015 Blue wax 2014 poured into a taster glass. No head despite a very aggressive pour. Seems to be black, oil, and light bodied. The nose shows mostly soy sauce and very faint hints of sweet malts. The palate on this is where it begins. It’s probably the most oily and slick bodied stout I’ve ever tried. Very full bodied and smooth. The 15% alcohol is definitely apparently as it gives it a lot of heat akin to chili. There is a raisin/port wine-like sweetness and ends on a strong coffee/espresso note of bitterness. A lot of people complain about the sweetness but if you chill it well, it’ll numb your tongue enough not to notice. Personally, I don’t find it cloying at all. This has to be tried at least once!

2013. Finally got to try this. Nose is of dark fruit, like chocolate, a bit of anise and sherry notes. Taste is much the same but it’s a bit too sweet. Perhaps better when fresh. Meh.

Bottle 2012 vintage. Had alongside a german chocolate cake, which I would highly recommend. Deep chocolate flavor, thick viscous pour, great nose. Worth all the hype.
