UPDATED: JAN 27, 2013 2010 Served at 55F As dark as night, very little head but of great brownish color -- poured very slow, so will award a 5 for appearance which I would have had there been more head. Aroma is intense of wood, roasted malt, molasses sweetness. At initial whiff, it reminds me of a barley wine more than a stout. Start to smell a bit of vanilla after warming. Beer is ultra smooth for the ABV. Very light in the mouth. Tastes of serious malt, molasses, vanilla. A slight bit of off taste, like a metallic bitter orange peel... but awesome beer.

2013. Finally got to try this. Nose is of dark fruit, like chocolate, a bit of anise and sherry notes. Taste is much the same but itís a bit too sweet. Perhaps better when fresh. Meh.

Bottle 2012 vintage. Had alongside a german chocolate cake, which I would highly recommend. Deep chocolate flavor, thick viscous pour, great nose. Worth all the hype.

redwax 2010---Not too complex, oily, a lot of (portish) sweetness, chocolate, liquorice, alcoholic, light roasted and no bitterness anymore.

2009 bottle. Enjoyed 12/31/14. Pours like oil with nearly no lasting head. Aroma has awesome, slightly sweet notes of caramel, roasted malts, mild dark fruits, chocolate, nuts, and a slight creamyness. Taste is sweet with roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, and sweet cherries. Full body with a low carbonation. Creamy smooth texture with nearly no carbonation and no trace of alcohol. Overall awesome.

Served from 22oz red waxed í12 bottle. Served in Teku. Aroma -- sweet cherry, oak-like aroma unlike other Imperial Stouts Iíve encountered. Rightfully so, the aroma of this beer, unlike many other world-class beers, is one of the most unique attributes of this beer. It should be admired for its magnificence. Appearance -- possesses the consistency of an oil well: abysmal, hellish, beyond the cusp of foreboding darkness. Taste -- true full-bodied, pleasantly deep, Imperial Stout that engulfs your palate and pushes you to the limit, Ross. Booziness has died down, still 15%+, nonetheless.. Subtle burnt char-like, smokiness after you have had many sips. I would not consider the beer smokey, though, by any means (i.e., I have a hard time appreciating smokiness in beer; the smokiness that is present in DL í12 is enjoyable for any IRS lover). Palate -- encourages your palate to step its game up and appreciate the uniqueness of this remarkable concoction. Overall -- Dark Lord is not the greatest Imperial Stout ever made; nonetheless, it surely stands in a category of its own: pure damnation, emboldening me to set my own substantial precedent. Merry Christmas, Ratebeer lovers.

2011 batch consumed 10 Aug 14 - Gift bottle from Eric K: Breakfast in the infield of Watkins Glen. Luscious, viscous pour, wisp of a head. The palate twists and turns befit the road course setting. Nothing Iíd change.

ok, so i just noticed now that i never reviewed this even though i drank an entire bottle out of the bottle myself at the very very end of RBSG 2010. Most of this got crushed as me and some other drunks stumbled towards the hotel from the Grand Tasting venue across from Founders. Drinking on the street was never better. I should have wrapped it up in a brown paper bag. Beer was blackish but maybe that had to do with the lack of real good street lights. You know it was fucking tasty as all get out but I became more focused on not being found in a dumpster in the morning. Staying awake for the next 30 hours didnít turn out to be the best idea Iíve had but those automatic flushing toilets in the Chicago airport made it all worthwhile.

2014 bottle. Thick motor oil black pour. Heavy black licorice smell. Very sweet plum tasting. Wow is there a lot of flavor. Lots of fruity taste and sweet licorice taste.

2011 vintage bottle shared at RichTheVillanís, 27/11/13. Pours black, tan head recedes. Huge sweet nose of booze, roast, stone fruit, chocolate and dark sugar. Tastes sweet with notes of cherry, vanilla, roast malt, some coffee and chocolate. Extremely sweet, too much so for me. Complex stout, no doubt, but if itís still that sweet after 2 years will it ever dry out?

Sample from Bottle - black pour with thin beige head. Roasted malty aroma and taste, some lovely sweet notes, chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, wow this is good.
