I love this beer...well worth the 5 hour drive, 4 hour wait in line and the $100+ dollars I shelled out for the beer...underattenuated? yes. a waste of excess, unecessary ingredients? possibly. amazing? definitely........................................

2008 bottle shared with coldbrewky via sloth. Shit this is dark...pours black as tar with a creamy head darker than my cup of coffee. The head recedes to an orangish colored ring around the glass, quite interesting. I was extremely excited to try this one to say the least and I am reliving my excitement as I transfer my notes on here....ok back to the rating. Strong intense nose of cocoa, dark cherries or dates, smoke, and splendidness. The flavor is outstanding leaving my mouth begging for more. Sweet molasses melds with dark cherries, chocolate, and roasted coffee. Also detect a hint of burnt something-or-other. A bit of alcohol becomes evident at the end. The mouthfeel is smooth, warm, and inviting. The massive complexity of this brew is amazing. I consider myself fortunate to enjoy something this special with such fantastic company!

2007 bottle. Pours a very viscous oil black settling with a small creamy Carmel / chocolate head, some spotty lacing. Big nose of cocoa powder, coconut, marshmallow and maybe the slightest hint of oxidation. Very heavy on the palate with tons of molasses, toffee and cocoa. Very heavy and creamy, slightly boozy with light oxidation. One of the most viscous Stouts I’ve come across, also, one of the tastiest beers I’ve ever tried.

’08 bottle. Thick, black and sticky. Heavy molasses and cocoa with some alcohol that announces itself somewhat poignantly. Excellent.

Thanks to Exiled for sharing this bottle. 2009 vintage. Pours black with no head. Very dark brown highlights at the edges. the aroma is very nice, with some oak and vanilla. You also get some milk chocolate and the slightest hint of soy sauce. The flavor is not as good as the aroma, but still not bad. The chocolate and vanilla are still there along with some roasted malt. You also get some soy sauce which is not a flavor I really enjoy. The mouthfeel is very thick and there is very low carbonation. The beer leaves an oily residue on the glass similar to a Samuel Adams Triple Bock.

[bottle @ RBESG 2009, Grant Tasting] Very raisiny, pumpernickel aroma with molasses and sugar. Opaque black under a brown ring. Sweet pumpernickel and molasses flavour with brown sugar and raisins. Full body, low carbonation, sweet finish.

This is the thickest beer I have ever had. So thick that at the bottom of the poor it had clumps. Pitch black with no light passing. Sugar lacing with thick sugar lacing. Massive flavors with a little too much sweetness. Actually prefer the Surly Darkness to this.

Poured from 22oz 2009 Bottle (White Wax Seal). Thick, rich, motor oil pour, slight reddish brown head which diminished rather quickly. Chocolate, cherry aroma immediately evident, along with alcohol. Syrupy, heavy, roasted malt taste with an intense thick palate. Warming alcohol finish. This is another excellent offering from 3 Floyds, absolutely perfect for a cold winters’ night.
