2011 bottle at tasting...Pours black, no carbonation, smells sweet and chocolaty. Booze is super well hidden but after nearly 2 years of age it’s pretty sweet. Honestly, for me, too sweet. I think I would like a fresh one better. Still pretty impressive beer. Amazing what they can pack in to a beer!

Bottle 2012. Wow am I disappointed. Was really looking forward to trying this beer but didnt live up to hype. Aroma of soy sauce, molasses. Taste follows nose. Huge molasses Sweetness. No hop presence. Really Really sweet. Disappointing.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottled. Black beer, lacy tan head. Licorice and soy sauce nose, some alcohol, thick caramel, grains, roasted barley notes. Port wine berries, woody notes and chocolate increase after a few whiffs. Full of dried fruits, green hop notes, some earthy notes. Very complex. Sweet and heavy flavor, raisins, wood, leading into a slightly tingling bitter finish with hints of ash and tobacco. Alcohol is very well hidden, some warmth remains. Extremely full-bodied, port vinous body. Balance is amazing for such a strong beer.Bottled. Black beer, lacy tan head. 2013 bottle. Good but not blown away. Too sweet for me and I’d like some more alternate flavors - but it still is a great stout.

Thanks to BelgBeerGeek for sharing this one. (Do I have to thank you for this I’m wondering ;-) )
If you want to smell & taste alcohol, molasses, sugar; this is your beer.
Sugar all over the place. Boring & untasty. Overhyped American beer. Actually, imho this is not beer. Thoughts when I see ratings above 10/20 for this one: 1) Beer has to have some presence of malts & hops.
2) Somebody think of the children.
Price/quality ratio: below par.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2013 bottle. Aroma is extremely sweet, lots of dark fruits, raisin, molasses, more unfermented sugars, coffee and booze. Pours a dark chocolate color with a thin mocha colored head. Taste is unbalanced. Way too much sugar in these last few vintages. Soy sauce. Roasted coffee...hints of chocolate, dark fruits....and booze. Finish has a slight bitterness to it, but it ends up with, still, too much sweetness. Very thick, syrupy, sticky mouthfeel. Not sure what has become of this beer, but it is not even close to one of my favorite Imperial Stouts anymore. Sloppy beer. And, I am a huge Three Floyds fan who keeps wanting to love this beer.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Flaska från 2009 (white wax). Mogna dofter av fikon, kaffe och portervibbar. Rund och len. Sammetslen. Påmminer lite om översockrat kaffe, som när man försökte lära sig dricka kaffe som lite och lastade i socker. Svagt värmande (chili?). kaffe och choklad med låg beska.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012. From bottle to tulip glass. Overt alcohol, sweetness and lack of complexity on the nose. Near jet black with a brown head that fades quickly, as expected due to the alcohol. Flavor is dominated my massive residual sweetness. Seems under attenuated. Some slight chocolate and roast in the background. Low bitterness. Was very excited to try this but it did not live up to the hype for me. Still, not too bad!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle (2013 vintage) pours jet black with small thin layer of foam. Nose is roasty dark fruits, boozy, plum, raisin, coffee grounds. Taste is oily earthy roast and big dark fruits, sweet, molasses, spices, booze, bitter cocoa notes, grapes. Finish is slick and bitter raisin, ash, and cream. Definitely unique, a beast of a beer.

Bottle of 2011 courtesy of BK.... Deep black with no head... Aroma of light chocolate, roasted malts, chocolate... Hint of bourbon, coffee... Flavor is really chocolatey, sweet initially, gives way to bourbon and vanilla notes.. Hint tobacco... Great great beer

2013: Give this one a few years in a cellar, and it could be great. As it is, there’s just too much heat and sweetness for me. I think a little aging could temper some of the extreme flavors and allow them to meld and round out. Still, a good beer. One of a four or five Dark Lords I’ve had and I don’t
