Todeon (314), Sweden May 17, 2009 Bottle. Maybe 6 months old or something. Pours a hazyorange color with a small white head. Aroma is tropical fruit with plenty of mango, citrus, hops and some spicey notes. Pretty floral to. Taste is really fruity with lots of peach and mango but also some other tropical fruits like orange. Sweet caramel can be found aswell as some peppery/spicey notes. Thick and oily mouthfeel and finishes with a slight dry bitter taste. beernbourbon (230), chicago, Illinois, USA May 16, 2009 Have now had a new one and an old one. The new one is just rediculous> nice cloudy brown pour with a thin white head. Aroma is intense: Pine hops, citrus hops; grapefruit, lemon and orange. A bit of a malt back bone too. flavor is huge hoppy goodness. A bit of pepper, a lot of grapefruit and pinehop. Very crisp finish: just the right notes linger. The old (06)> Aroma is more like a barleywine. Roasted malt, caramel, with a nice hop backbone. Flavor is syrupy sweetness with a distant hop flavor that comes through mostly in the finish; prevents it from being cloying. it tastes like two different beers. Both have their own good characteristics. The New is an IIPA, the old is a barleywine with a hop backbone, both are tasty as far as Im concerned. GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA May 16, 2009 Golden yellow pour with a white head. Aroma of fruity hops hits you as soon as you open the bottle., during the pour, and as it sits before you. Very smooth tasting, hoppy, but not overbearing. Some spicyness, alittle dryness in the aftertaste, makes you want to take another drink. Nice lacing on the glass. I should of bought more at DLD, but it is only a 90 minute drive away. One of the best DIPA’s I’ve had so far. josephselander (42), Salem, Oregon, USA May 14, 2009 Appearance – Pours a light yellow color and turns into a dark amber caramel color. When held up to the light it becomes very light and slightly couldy. Very little head, hardly any lacing, only a small ring remains. After swirling the glass a 1 finger head emerges; the kind of head (not to mention it lasts a good while too, whew) that just redeemed this beers appearance quite a bit!
Smell – This has a very floral hop aroma, that is very, very strong. This actually smells a lot like the new batch of Hop Henge. Has some citrusy mango notes as well, but they are blanketed a great deal by the strong hop presence. This should be quite the hop bomb!
Taste – The hops take a second to hit you, but they creep up on you and build slowly. This lacks the hop “zing” that I love in DIPA’s, which is unfortunate. The hops are dominate in the taste just like in the smell, but the caramel backbone shows its face in the finish and lends this beer a little bit of smokiness that was unexpected.
Mouthfeel – The lack of hop “zing” hurts this beer’s mouthfeel, but it has a nice thick resiny feel to it. This kind of DIPA sticks around to let you taste it for quite some time after you are done drinking it. Nothing overwhelming though.
Drinkability – I will easily be able to finish the rest of this bomber, but I can’t help but want to just pour the rest and open up a Two Hearted. This beer is just an underwhelming beer for me. Beerapprentice (111), Hopatcong, New Jersey, USA May 13, 2009 22 oz courtesy of Adrian. Smells of hops, pine, mango, peaches and citrusy grapefruit. Amazing aroma! Pours a goregous golden orange colour with a medium sized white head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Tastes of pine, hops, malt and fruit. Has a bitter initial taste followed by the taste of sweet fruit. Lightly carbonated. Excellent beer, though Adrian says as good as it is, it used to be better. ChrisThomson (378), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 10, 2009 Updated: Jul 27, 2009Great beer. Pours hazy orange. Huge hop flavours, big on citrus, pine balanced with sweetness. 41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA May 10, 2009 Nice beer. Aroma of pine, caramel and biscuit. Flavors of toffe, pine, mint, and grassiness all came through. At the finish was an unpleasant alcohol astringency, very dry and tacky. Mouthfeel was light to medium. Very good, not great but worth a try. 2009 22 oz. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA May 8, 2009 22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with pnista. Pours a hazy orange gold with a moderate off-white head that lasted through about half the beer and laced the glass well. Very pleasant aroma of bright, fruity orange and grapefruit along with some caramel. The flavor loses a bit of the fruitiness and gains citrus pith bitterness, but is well balanced against a strong caramel backbone. Fairly smooth and silky mouthfeel despite the strong bitterness. Full bodied. Very enjoyable.
