COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

My first experience of 3Fs, wow, so the hype is just. Nice golden/orange, good white foamy head quickly dissapating. Nose is sweet and citrus, heavy apricot maybe some caramel but subdued. Flavor confirmed the citrus with a slight bitter. Full bodied...bubbly... damn good. It’s great having friends, thanks rich

thanks to bbb63 for this, pours a cloudy orange color with a cream colored head that fades down to some lacing. aroma is sweet citrus hops, some honey, caramel malts, and apricots. flavor is full of citrus and bitter grassy hops, perfectly balanced by the sweet malts. fruit tones work their way thoughout. very smooth mouthfeel, aftertaste holds the same balance of the flavors. my only complaint is a little bit of over carbonation gives a very tingly mouthfeel, otherwise, utterly excellent, meeting every expectation i had.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2006 Bomber, May 2005, and tap at the brewpub, January 2006.
Translucent orange in color. When looking through the tulip, it seems to magnify everything behind it. First pour yielded a few tiny bubbles as its head, but the second pour was more foamy, bubbly and more distinct. Aroma is full of hyper floral hops, some citric sweetness, lemon grass, honey, pine, and orange soda. Flavor is pineapple and grapefruit. Seems like what herbal essence shampoo would taste like it they came out with a beverage line. Lemon grass also manifests for flavor and there’s something there that reminds me of a "woodsy" type of cologne.

Compassionately rapes your tongue with a chafing bitterness. Not over the top with bitterness or sweetening, but the amplified levels are quite commendable. Well-balanced, moderate carbonation and sweet caramel contributions throughout. Finishes like orange sweet cream and a warming tingle at the back of the throat. Very tasty stuff and a classic in its own right.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2008 Very frothy. A strong burst of floral and gingery hops. Flavor is deep and very strong with grapefruit and continuing floral. Continues with a very rich and creamy bread and yeast. Alcohol is pretty well hidden with a good rounding factor. Malt plays an important role in keeping this beer balanced, with some caramel showing through. Finishes up with a touch of fresh ruby red grapefruit and vodka on the palate. A beer with strong depth and complexity and not just burning hops. This is much more palatable for myself. Enjoyed by the shores of Lake Superior thanks to robertsreality and badgerben!

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2006 malt & hops, what a great combination! drank this wonderful brew on a very special occasion, first morel mushroom tasting of 2005. this hazy, honey gold beer had a perfect off-white foamy head. aromas & flavors of the aforementioned malt & hops. great balance, superb beer. re-rate 5/2/06 I’ve had this 3 times since my original rating and while it is still a damn good IIPA, I felt I needed to adjust the rating down 2 tenths.

NUM pours a cloudy golden color w/ a big fluffy white head that laces well. The aroma is a big floral hop w/ a very crisp bite and a nice orange component w/ a light malt backbone. The palate is thick full bodied and creamy. The flaovr was a nice well balanced floral and citrus hops w/ a sweet carmel malt. Overall this is what EVERY OTHER IPA should aspire to become.

Hops and high alcohol - what a beautiful combination! This is a very high quality brew. You can definitely taste the sweet malt, but it mixes well with the hoppiness. I look forward to trying some others from three Floyds.

Citrus hops, caramel malt nose with alcohol notes. A FREAKIN’ DELECTIBLE TREAT. My first rating in six months. THis beer made me want to rate beers again.
