COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hopheadís dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

God damn I love this stuff. Thanks to my brother for sending one down to me via USPS. Cloudy pumpkin color - smells like hops are pouring out the bottle as I open it. Citrus overtones. Not much head - very crisp clean taste and for a beer with such amazing powerful flavors it has little to no aftertaste. Canít wait for more.

Bomber courtesy of jsquire. Hazy deep orange amber colour with a frothy tan coloured head. Grapefruit, pine, caramel, toffee, and lightly floral and perfumed aroma. Fruity, caramel, and toffee malts leading to a grapefruit, tangerine, floral, and earthy bitter finish, with only slightly noticable alcohol. Full bodied and smooth mouthfeel. Yummy!

I finally get to rate this thanks to a trade with DarkElf! Pours a beautiful clear amber with a rocky off-white head. Aroma is very hoppy/citrusy but equally malty as well. Taste has strong notes of pine, hops, caramel and citrus/grapefruit. Just perfectly balanced with the malt and hops. Pretty sweet with a very bitter aftertaste and dry finish. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy with subtle carbonation, just glorious on the palate. Goes down a lot smoother than other I2PAs without losing any of its balls. Great head retention and lacing hangs on the glass in sheets. Without a doubt, one of the best beers Iíve ever had. Highly recommended!

The dreadnaught is exactly as the name describes, it is fearless... it makes a beautiful thick opaque copper color followed by a nice just a tad darker than white head and makes a sticky lacing all the way down my glass. Smell is sweet of cereal malts with hints citrus fruit, but this is only a trap. Then the dreadnaught attacks with a hopped flavor like no other! It is a sweet candy coated hop cone in a glass. Full bodied and syrupy, sticky, leaving a thick coating on the mouth and throat. This is hop heaven... awesome stuff!

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2007 After having every batch that has come out in 2006 (I think anyway), I am convinced that this is the most consistent and bestDouble IPA in the land. This is the best, period.

I found this one during my day trip to Baltimore. It was sitting on the sale rack for just over $6! Poured a deep amber with a large off white head. Aromas of citris and pine. Strong orange tastes. Caramel. Starts off nice and sweet and ends with a nice bitter bite. Very well balanced. Very good beer not worthy of a sale rack!

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2005 By the Goddess Eris, I love these Three Floyd folk. Just finished a bottle of this marvelous stuff. It pours a rich, golden orange color with a slight head but bubbles up the sides of the glass the length of the drink. Sweet floral aroma with a hint of the citric... grapefruit. Thick bodied and makes your lips sticky as you drink. Flavorful malts with a sweet-sour mouth-feel. The nose tingles the entire time, exciting this hop-head. Great bitter finish. MORE!!!!!

09.20.04 Yeeehhaaaa!!!! Bomber thanks to Joe (Marinaro500)...Iím enjoying this tonight as one third of a personal IIPA fest to celebrate the Eagles/Vikings Monday night game. Brilliant orange-golden glow; light head for the style. Aroma is a sweet hopfest of sugar coated orange and grapefruit slices dipped in pine sap. Light hints of cotton candy and blueberry. Body is a thick, sweet, and soft mouth full, sharply bitter. Nice, fresh bready and sweet malts. Big time hops make the mouth numb, the gums tingle.

The thing I like most about this marvelous beer is the thought that if this is the best, then Iím not missing much. This is great, but I canít see much, if any, jump over the other great examples of the style: Smutty Big A, GD Hercules, Stone Ruination, DFH 90min...theyíre all great in their own way. This oneís mark is made by itís velvet mouthfeel, but I could easily find something better in all of the other great IIPAs. Thatís not a bad thing at all. Thanks Joe!

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2004 22oz.( all mine ).This thing smells.Smells so goll darn good find it hard to believe. How many words can you come up with for the aroma of a world class IPA ??Add them up put them in a bottle that sayís Three Floyds Dreadnaught IPA and you have it.This beer, when you take a sip demands that you take another. The body is heavenly not thick not thin but as Goldilocks would say: just right. You canít come to the reality that a beer can taste like this.
