Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Bottle @ Odense smagning, august 2009. Pours hazy orange with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose is deep... Lots of exotic fruits. Pine and orange. Smooth and crisp and with a lovely malty balance. Caramel, pine and grapefruit. Lovely

Bottle, thanks Josh. So we had this at a small tasting, and we might have done things a bit backwards, having this after the moylans hopsickle. Piny smooth and so drinkable, with delicious malts, very well balanced. Not a hop bomb, and not too sticky, but those are not bad things. What really stood out to me was just how sweet it is, with some bready notes. Finish had some bitterness, but the sweetness still hung in there. I would like to drink this more often.

Amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee with lots of grapefruit hops, and a hint of alcohol. Sweet caramel flavour with intense and complex hops, with citrus and pine dominating

bottle bonused to me by shawnm213! very crisp goldenrod pour with only light head that dissolves quickly. hop explosion aroma with a good bit of maltyness to it. a crisp sparkling green apple bite that fades nicely into a well balanced sweet and sour finish. not to syrupy, not to dry, great aftertaste and very smooth.

22 oz. bottle from Delock’s Liquor in Munster, IN. Golden orange pour with a thick, creamy white head. Aroma of pineapple, mango, grapefruit, and pine. Bitter grapefruit hop flavor balanced with caramel malt sweeteness. Alcohol virtually unnoticed. Mind-blowingly good. Near the top of its class.

I’ve tasted this twice and have had the same impression. It’s a very good DIPA but it’s not the best I’ve ever had. Slight grapefruit and pine aromas. Flavors follow the aromas with grapefruit and pine. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the finish is extended. Overall it is very good, but quite honestly I like Avery Maharaja much more.

Aroma is really nice, lots of citrus and a nice burnt toffee thing from the malt. Really resinous on the tongue and roof of mouth, but really complex and well-blended flavors of papaya, grapefruit and apricots. Malt really balances the brew and makes this very smooth and drinkable. A little sugary heat on the finish that seems out of place with the rest of the flavors. Really nice.
