3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DSG (3926) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - NOV 28, 2008
(10/16/08) Bottle at friends’ house in Philadelphia. Slightly hazy amber color with a medium beige head. Aroma full of hops, citrus, some piney notes and some balancing caramel and biscuits. Sweet flavor with quite a bit of malt, caramel, some biscuit notes, a bit of honey and some nutty notes. Continues bitter and hoppy with nice grapefruit and lemon notes but the malty background is always apparent. Medium to full-bodied. Very good and quite balanced.

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2008 draft at brewpub....aroma: light citrus, grapefruit nose w/ sweet sugary malt that also chimes in and makes its presence....appearance: glassy golden brown topped with a medium ivory head...taste: nice pine essence with additional citrus hops playing a role as well. taste gives way to the sugary malt and then finishes off with grapefruit......very nice off the tap.
9/17/08 lot less palatable this time around on tap at the brewpub. dinish is a little too sweet and bitter which doesn’t make for a good combination.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2007 Bottle from Jb175: Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a very thin white head. Aromas of mango and some hops. Flavor is moderately sweet with a medium body of carmel and toffee. Medium hop bitterness and flavor. Definitely a nice and strange mango flavor in this. Floral hoppy notes. Pretty damn good but i definitely did not find this one equal to its rating as 1 in imperial ipas.

I like this beer but I was expecting more from a name like Dreadnaught. Not bad at all but just a little too sweet. Pours a cloudy honey color with a thin head that is white and dense. Not a huge nose on this brew, slightly citrusy with a little bit of a grassy, hoppy smell. Tastes very sweet up front with a good amount of bitterness on the back of the throat and tongue. Some citrus in there maybe a bit of grapefruit and some caramel sweetness. Pretty thick with decent carbonation. Not a bad big IPA.

Just like every other high gravity IPA with respect to appearance and aroma. However,
balance = bitterness/sweetness < 1 so I’ll stick with Hopslam.

Pours a murky dark orange with very little lacing. The aroma is very sweet, with notes of pine, caramel and grapefruit along with grass and resin. The flavor is somewhat sweet with what seems to be a moderate bitterness even though it is stated to be 100 IBU’s. I think fresh this would be a different experience

Golden, slightly orange. Aroma is malty, candy, a bit of pine with citrus hops. Taste is extremely well balanced between malty and hoppy, almost too well balanced. A good beer.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Pours clear light orange with small white head. Some small bubble lacing, medium body, medium carbonation and slightly slick texture. Taste is complex grapefruit, grass, and finishes bitter hops.

Light brownish tan and hazy, head was about a finger and lace was decent. Smell was less than I had expected from such a highly rated beer. It had pine, citrus, hops and lots of pungent malts, but had a sort of "wet dog" smell that I found a bit odd. Taste is boldly hoppy, plenty of pungent malts, grapefruit and pine, citrus peel bitterness on the follow through. Body is really nice, full and creamy, with a touch of sweet, aftertaste isn’t as bitter as I would have thought. Nice. It’s certainly a worthwhile beer for any hophead. I will definitely leave this on my wants list.
