A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a cloudy honey color. Small white head. Some lacing. Aroma of both pine and grapefruit. Good body, about what you’d expect from an imperial IPA. Nice combo of bitterness with just enough caramel sweetness to offset. Mildly sticky, but still very drinkable. Very good, but in my opinion not quite up to expectations based on what I saw others post. It is hop juice and I appreciate that, but while very good there wasn’t a huge wow factor for me. Maybe a fresh bottle/draft pour would change my mind. Still, even though my comments are muted in comparison to others it is clear that this is another very good brew from Three Floyds.

Pours golden with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is full of peach, pineapple, citrus and caramel. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and nice bitter. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and soft carb. A world class brew.

Poured from bomber into large tulip glass. Translucent amber-ish yellow with thick but quickly diminishing white head. Smells like strong fruity hops. Taste picks up where the smell leaves off, more fruity hops, with a sharp, but pleasant bitterness, and some sweet-ish malt in the background. Palate is nice and smooth. Pretty great beer.

Pours a nice golden color, big head with a nice citrusy aroma. Lots of lacing on glass. Really hoppy which makes me happy. I don’t get the citrus taste I was expecting but a piney alcohol taste is present. Over all a pretty good IPA, I’d like to try a little fresher bottle sometime to compare with this one.

Bottle pour. Semi-opaque, orange-peach color in glass with foamy white head that leaves consistent lacing. Lush nose of orange sherbet, caramel and restrained pine. Some tropical fruit in the background. Unexpectedly subtle, but nonetheless, inviting. Does improve on warming. Medium to full body. Huge hop presence. Creamy orange, fresh squeezed grapefruit and slight resinous bite. More sweet than bitter, but plays the full gamut of flavors. Complimentary malt and yeast backings, brings caramel and some straw to the profile. Finishes dry, with lingering orange rind. Enveloping, without being unctuous, on the palate. High ABV never distracts. This is first rate hop juice.
