ogglethorp (752), Ohio, USA Jan 17, 2008 On tap. Pours a hazy straw color with a rocky white head. Aroma is banana, clove, citrus, light malts. Flavor is banana, clove, spice, lemon zest. Palate is light bodied, medium carbonation, finishes on the sweet and lightly spicy side. Good. SQNfan (388), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jan 7, 2008 On tap at the brewpub: A nice hefeweizen with banana, spice and some citrus. This got lost during the day by the other beers our group tried. rowefam3 (70), kendallville, Indiana, USA Nov 23, 2007 Typical good hyfe, but with an unbelievably strong aroma. My wife actually enjoyed this at the brewpub. She’s normally not a beer drinker. JLAudio (261), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Nov 3, 2007 On tap at FFF brewpub. Was a bit lighter in color than I expected, but offered an array of flavors I also wasn’t expecting. It was bright, citrusy, and was full of traditional banana, clove, and nutmeg, with a sweet vanilla element. It was crisp and clean. Brigadier (829), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Oct 25, 2007 On tap at brewpub
I only had time for a single tap at Three Floyds. It was a tough decision but in the end I opted for something light. The other options looked enticing but it would have been a long drive to the Livery after all four. Perhaps I will make it back there sometime soon to try the others. If not there is plenty of great beer here in Ohio until I can make it back.
Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy orange body looked as typical for the style as one would expect. It turns yellow towards the bottom of the bowtie glass. Wheat, bananas and orange rinds were most evident. I found it to be a little soapy but not enough to ruin the beer. The total package is very light and playful.
Flavor / Palate - The tart first impression could be a little thicker but gets the job done. Banana pudding gives way to rye bread, pancakes and spices. It all fades quickly before a light fruity finish. The thinness of the body began to stand out towards the middle of the glass. Still it is a solidly done hefe and I have no regrets about trying it. At 20 ounces per pour this one could knock you back quickly.
