3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Treebs (733) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 201222 oz. bottle served in a Hofbrauhaus Munchen tulip .
A: Pours a dark black color with dark brown edges. A nice khaki head forms on the pour. It recedes quickly to a thick collar that leaves some splotchy sheets of lace left down the glass.
S: Some solid chocolaty aspects to it up front with some lightly toasted malts. There is a little brine in there which I can attribute to the saltiness of the oyster shells.
T: A large briny flavor sticks throughout each sip. There is some chocolate, dark fruits and lightly toasted grain flavors creating the body of the beer.
M: Medium to thin bodied with a medium carbonation level and s light salty finish.
O: A good take on the style, but I wish I got more roasted malt flavors and some sweet chocolate notes to compliment the salty flavors from the oyster shells. An imperial version might be the key here to grab more flavors out of the different elements and create more body as it was a tad thin for me.

Pour is thick, black, with little to no head. Aroma is of slight sweet malts, toasted grains, earth. Flavor is normal for a stout with just a tad of salt/spice in the body. Molasses, semi-sweet chocolate, cream. Light/medium bodied.

I have only had one other oyster stout but this superb. Super smooth with a great briney flavor that is very subtle.

Pours an oily looking black with an average tan head. Aroma is more sweet and consists of chocolate, licorice, raisin, smoke, and roasted malts. Taste is similar to the aroma, but it is more roasted as opposed to sweet chocolate. In addition to these roasted malts, chocolate and licorice are still the other dominant flavors. I get some smokiness and coffee here also. It is sweet, but not to much. Aftertaste is a smoky chocolate with licorice undertones. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Not a whole lot of carbonation in here. Very easy to drink this one. It isn’t anything over the top in any way. Its just a solid, well made stout.

[4613-20120708] 1pt6floz bottle. Dusty chocolate roast malt aroma. Black body with a quick foamy brown head. Boozy roast nutty salted starch flavour, just a hint of a tang in the finish. Full body. Solid brew, interesting to try, great label. So, what does mollusk taste like, anyway? Or mutiny, for that matter? (7/3/7/4/16) 3.7

bottle from tom10101, thanks! pours very dark brown with a nice beige head, some retention and lacing. mushrooms, soy, slightly burnt malts, big grassy-resinous hops, some belgiumness (!). average to soft carbonation, slightly lacking body. some depth, but... still, not that great.

Bottle (22 oz). Traded by dresden, thanks Steve! Dark brown with a small head and some lacing. Weird but interesting aroma of mushrooms, smoke, dust and caramel. Taste is salty with smokey notes and hints of mushrooms. Mouthfeel is thin and watery, even for a stout. Except for the salty taste, I would have thought this is more a mushroom stout than an oyster stout. I didn’t find this beer particularly good but it was quite fun to drink (that explain the high "overall" rating). A must-try at least once.

Pours dark black with a big tan head. Nose is briney, salt, coffee, nuts and light chocolate. Taste is sweet but not for long. Bitter and saltiness join in before the middle and carry through to the finish. Mouthfeel is crisp and oily, body is heavy and finish is long.
