This beer, created in honor of Henry Chinaski, was a collaboration between Three Floyds and Jonathan Cutler of Piece Brewery. Its delicate, spicy, smoked character is derived from a portion of smoked and rye malts.Also brewed by Barnaby&Chris to piss Nick off ;)

Loved this one. Super clean smoky and spicy. Darker orange pour. Aroma has nice spicy rye and just a light smoky malt presence. Taste adds interesting spices (clove, pepper). Balanced perfectly. It's nice to have a smoke beer that isn't overwhelming and actually refreshing. Awesome!

Tap. Copper/gold. Fruity nose. Not too much rye; more of a fruity, malty contribution. Refreshing!

Slightly spicy aroma. Pale gold with a huge head. The spicy flavor is so clean and distinct. The rye spiciness comes out so perfectly that it almost depresses me how a beer can be so clean. Wonderful. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at DLD. Barely remember this one. Orangey pour. Smokey, spicey aroma. Medium bitterness in the taste. Interesting.

This one poured a darker orange color with a white head. Aroma was big smoke, rye and clove, definitely what I was hoping for. Flvor was the same, big dry meaty smoke,with clove and some rye notes. Not sure they could have pulled this one off any better.

Darker gold pour, white head. Some retention/no lace. Aroma of ham, light smoke, caramel. Taste is lightly smokey, glazed ham, caramel. Palate is soft, slick, light finish. Really nails the ham.

On tap at 3 Floyds. Smokey aroma. Very smokey flavors. First beer like this. But to big of a fan of the smoked malt. Its got a nice bitterness. My girlfriend likes it more than I do. To much like smoke flavors.

Tap pour at brewpub - actually shared with another as Im just not a huge smoked beer fan, but this one sounded interesting. Copper pour with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is obviously smoky (medium strength) with some sweet malt, a heavy dose of spice (yeah for the rye) and some bbq accents - very interesting, and not overwhelming. Flavor is solid - the smokiness is far from overwhelming and actually complements other flavors of ham (yep, no doubt it is in there), spice, medium malt backbone - good stuff. Palate is appropriate for the style, and this is about as drinkable of a smoked beer Ive ever had. Kudos to this effort - although I probably wont go back for another, this was truly a good beer...

A: Darker gold in color and nice white head that shows medium retention. S: Big time rye in the front of this. Smokey aroma later on, pretty nice. T: Rye up front with some smokiness up front. There is a underlying sweetness to this but only in the front half. Very much reminiscent of a ham on rye. M: Medium mouthfeel. Tastes were smokey and left everywhere from the palate and long into the aftertaste. Nice dry rye to it. O: A nice change of pace, not something I would crave however.
