3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Amber with a small dense head. The aroma is smokey, with some sweet malt. The flavor adds some rye and a sweet lingering finish. Pretty complex.

This brew is just crazy. Smells smokey. Tastes like the ham I had for breakfast with my grits this morning. Crazy. Smokiness is there too...but thankfully it is not overpowering at all.

Definitely geared towards a bacony taste. Not as good as a good Rauchbier, but a solid experimental offering. It went down quickly.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Just completely bizarre. Smells like cheese and ham. Amber color and kind of cloudy. Lacing is ok with a decent head. Mouth has a slight burn to it. Taste is very much ham on rye. Exactly what the name suggests and totally wild. You have to try it, but drink more than 1? I don’t know about that.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at FFF, fresh and clean. Amber brown with a big off white head. Soft smoky aroma with some mild soapy notes. Delicate mouthfeel, medium to full bodied. Perfectly executed, a really nice Rauchbier. Rich, smoky caramel tones. Mild delicate hops provide balance. Nice.

Weird beer! They achieved what they set out to this beer basically tastes like a ham on rye sandwich. The rye is the big flavor, but there is definitely a smokey hamy flavor as well. I think this might have been aged in spam tins...

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2011 Had it on tap at Three Floyds. A perfectly titled beer. Tastes and smells like ham on rye. A true liquid lunch. Not bad.

On tap at DLD ’11. This beer is a true testament to 3Fs bittering/hopping skills as their distinctive floral and citrus hops still permeate through and give an impressive balance to the meaty, smoked bacon. The aroma is essentially as just described. The body is lighter feeling for a smoked and well carbonated surprisingly, as I was expecting a slightly thicker, creamy fullness. Still, nicely drinkable. Hamy notes here in the flavor, with spicy, roasted pig and wood, along with mixed cereal grains, rye, citrus and florals. The finish is hoppy though well balanced. Really a well made beer. Definitely my kind of smoked.
