4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft @ FFF’s Anny Party...pours a cloudy yellow-gold color with a massive white head. This has the most intense amount of lemon zest in the nose, some light malts present, contributing a cracker-like quality in the background. Some other citrus components noted as well...nice body, perfectly carbonated. Flavors are strong on the citrus front...enough of a malt backbone to balance it out a bit. I truly wish they would bottle this one. Cheers!!

Tap at brewpub. Not sure what a Hessian ESB is stylewise, nor did bartender, but the beer won me over. Bready, citrusy aroma with a moderate head and cloudy tan/orange tone. Great looking beer. First sip presents with an earth citrus tone with slight tangerine sweetness. Not overly bitter on the back but bitterness present. The beers abv is not obvious with it drinking more like a session beer. Areally solid and pleasant offering.

First rating. Pint at the Three Floyds brew pub. Pours a hazy orange with a nice, healthy medium white head. I’m trying to imagine a Hessian ESB as I drink this. Aroma of leafy hops, some pineapple and orange. Healthy dose of hops in the aroma. Flavor is mostly bitter, lots of citrus and pine, specifically focusing on tangerine and grapefruit hops. It’s nice, juicy, and easy drinking. The malts are kind of smoggy. Nice light malt bill. Lots of caramel and some baked bread. This beer is light, easy drinking, very nice to session and enjoy. Very nice beer from Three Floyds.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours hazy orange with 1 finger of perfect foam and great retention. Aroma is very herbal and woody (Sorachi Ace perhaps?), very candy-like with almost a purple grape-y note akin to a Struise beer. Taste is very herbal, lemon, berries, thyme, rosemary, and sweet caramel candy dominate. Body is medium, creamy, average carbonation, dry bittersweet finish. Overall, this is very interesting and totally different from anything I’ve ever had before.

Aroma is potent citrus hops, lots of grapefruit notes, a healthy dose of pine, resin, also toasty malts. Pours a hazy orange / golden color with one finger of white head with decent retention. Flavor is fairly bitter, lots of grapefruit and orange, pine as well, moderately malty - biscuit and bread crust, finish is on the bitter side. Medium body and carbonation. Very tasty.

Premium Bitter/ESB? No, but this is the Three Floyds I remember!!! Doesn’t matter what the style designation... they just brew something super hoppy and call it a day. Tastes like BrooDoo used to taste. Super green hoppy, huge spruce, bit of orange, light backing biscuity sugar, super green, candied green hops. Very tasty, bitterness comes at the finish but just a tad. Ha! This is the Floyds I remember! Pours a unclear murky dull orange, yeasty or just hops? Strong assertive astringent bitterness... but it is overshadowed and somewhat balanced out by the sweetness.

À la pompe au pub: Couleur orangé trouble avec une belle mousse. Agrumes, tangerine avec des notes de blé dans le corps. Amertume insistante avec un fini sec poivré.

Half-pint poured at the source... Pours a hazy apricot orangey hue and topped with a creamy white head tha quickly fades to a thin film... Oranges, tangerine, and a modicum of dankness. Some biscuity caramels on the backend but this is very much hop focused... Flavors don’t dEviate all that much. More tangerines upfront, juiciness all around and semi-sweet in nature. Expecting a little more bitterness which was held mostly in check. Lighter side of medium bodied. Easy drinking and enjoyed the juicy citrus fruits that were emphasized. Couldve used a touch mire bitterness and less sweetness.

Draft. Poured clear light copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate earthy citrus hop and small sweet malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium spicy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.
