Bottle bought from Mikkeller and Friends enjoyed at home
Pours quite dark, massive tanned head. Smells of pine cones, roasted malts. resins, ark malts, spices and herbs. Moderate sweet, fruity and juicy, pine and resins, other wood, dark malts. roast and hints of coffee. Heavy bitter resins and pine hops, some roast as well. A very nice beer. Probably even better with a super fresh bottle

Bottle... Berliner Bash on the Bay 2013... Clear dark-brown ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is of deeply roasted malts, pine and grapefruit with a lesser note of dank hops. Medium to full-bodied and oily with airy carbonation. The flavor is deeply roasted, bold and bitter with a grassy finish. Bottle courtesy of BBB63!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A rich roasted cocoa Black IPA with generous piney-grapefruity hopping.
How: Bottle 22oz, post-HF FoFA 2013, drank about 1/3rd of the bottle.
The look: Cloudy brown body topped by a medium beige head.
In long: Nose is bright piney-citrusy hops, roast and cacao. In mouth a rich body, creamy texture, a generous carbonation. Taste is very satisfying. Roast, cookies, milk chocolate, cocoa beans, generous hopping. The hopping has piney flavors along with bright graprfuity lemony character I rarely find in Black IPAs. A superior Black IPA. So apparently In The Name Of Suffering is the name of an album by the band EyeHateGod who are friends with Three Floyds, I know nothing about this album or the band but Iím rulling out smooth Jazz.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2014 Bottle at Mikkeller and friends. Pours dark brown with medium tan head leaving very sticky lacing. Nose is full of milk chocolate and roastiness while there is moderate piney hops and a very passionfruit forward note which balances the roast and goes hand in hand. Superb. Taste is woody and chocolate driven with big pine and tropical notes. A hint of pepper works well. Seriously drinkable stuff. Fantastic BIPA

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle from the brewery, served in a stem glass. Pours deep chestnut with a moderate tan head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has delicate resin, pine, pepper and citrus, along with roasty malts. The flavour is well balanced between chocolatey, roasty malts on the one hand, and delicate, piney resinous and peppery hops on the other. It finishes on a balanced note, with roasty and hoppy notes. On the palate it is medium in body with a smooth, silky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice and subtle black IPA. I suspect that the hops would have been a bit more dominant when fresh. 2013-11-22

Draft at brewpub from July...pours dark black. Huge piney nose with some bakerís chocolate, pipe tobacco and fruitiness apparent. Taste follows to a "T" but not as piney, which was good. More fruity hop goodness on the back-end. Very good brew
