Jet black hoppiness. Little aroma. Big black hoppy flavor but a fruitiness that is appealing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle from the brewery, served in a stem glass. Pours deep chestnut with a moderate tan head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has delicate resin, pine, pepper and citrus, along with roasty malts. The flavour is well balanced between chocolatey, roasty malts on the one hand, and delicate, piney resinous and peppery hops on the other. It finishes on a balanced note, with roasty and hoppy notes. On the palate it is medium in body with a smooth, silky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice and subtle black IPA. I suspect that the hops would have been a bit more dominant when fresh. 2013-11-22

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at brewpub from July...pours dark black. Huge piney nose with some baker’s chocolate, pipe tobacco and fruitiness apparent. Taste follows to a "T" but not as piney, which was good. More fruity hop goodness on the back-end. Very good brew

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle. Rating from notes. This is probably one of the coolest names of a beer ever. Pours a very dark brownish black with a big sticky beige head. Aroma is roast, piney and citrus hops, mild chocolate and tobacco notes. I’m not really sure what a New Orleans style beer is, but this has leather, mint, and orange peel notes as well. Medium to fullish bodied. Somewhat creamy. Pretty nice in a style that I don’t really think has established itself ut of a gimmick style yet.

Bottle @ Bruce’s. The pour’s brown with a small head. Peppered chocolate nose. Red apple skin and toffee. The taste is similar. Peppery hop, earth. Just a touch of lactose, cream. Nicely full mouthfeel. Rich, luxurious. Medium body, fine carbonation. Good.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark black. Lots of maltiness and lots of hop aroma. Creamy off white head that lingers with some lacing. Tastes somewhat fruity. Finishes with some caramel and is somewhat dry. A nice beer. Better than any other black ipa I've had.
