This Black India Pale Ale is loaded with hops balanced with delicious maltiness. It was brewed with our friends from the great city of New Orleans in the band EYEHATEGOD.

This is a pretty intense beer as the name suggests. It pours a very dark murky brown black with a small white head and some effervescence. It smells like a Belgian beer with a lot of hops and the perfect amount of sweet malts. It tastes a little belgiany, maybe some sweet caramel malts balanced beautifully with some hops. It’s not as bitter as I’d expect from an IPA. Overall this is a grand beer and I’d love to get it again.

Pours a dark black. Lots of maltiness and lots of hop aroma. Creamy off white head that lingers with some lacing. Tastes somewhat fruity. Finishes with some caramel and is somewhat dry. A nice beer. Better than any other black ipa I've had.

Black as night with a nice initial aroma. Bitter, citrusy, with great balance in maltiness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thx to allesmetkaas @ Rampkrot Whale tasting – 65 cl. Bottle sampled. Dark light ruby brown, tanned head. Wonderful earthly hops, light glue, thick malt, very thick spices, almost curry hops, getting some sorachi ace,… Bitter hops, very earthly taste, malts, thick spices, leaves, light spices, sorachi ace, almost cheese, bitter herbs, lingering bitter root, earthly aftertaste,… m/m body, quite interesting, quite lovely.

VERY impressive black IPA. Full of malt character, with notes of boxwood, spruce, and faint hints of dark juicy berries. Extremely complex, gets better as it warms. Almost no lace on glass. Really beautiful pour from draft into tulip glass at Map Room. Great brew.

22 oz. bottle straight from the brewery. Pours a very pretty deep charcoal brown with a small bubbly light tan head. Nose and flavor are rife with dank marijuana and freshly cut grass, scallion, lemon, white grapefruit and biting bitter orange, resin, touches of earthy loam, roast, and touches of heavily roasted coffee. Direct, clean and unabashed in its profile, but not assaulting or overwhelming. Very dry on the finish, medium bodied up front. Extremely good.

22 oz. bottle, sent from StFun (thanks a lot, Josh), pours a deep dark brown / near-black with an amber tinge and a medium beige head. Aroma of rich toasted malts, a little roast, and some dry earthy, piney hops. Flavour brings out very dry earthy hops, toasted malt, slight roast, and more earthy hops. Exceedingly well-balanced, with a super dry mouthfeel, leaving a lingering finish of dry earthy hops and rich toasted malt. A remarkably-constructed black IPA that it was too easy to drink -- without any of the harshness that many black IPAs have, yet full of flavour. Awesome stuff.

Eyehategod is quite the interesting band... Likewise this is quite the interesting beer. Black ipas always surprise me with how many different types of flavors they possess. This beer is no different. It Pours a murky black brown color with a lacy foamy head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus and grapefruit and dark maltyness. Flavor is balanced and wonderful. Nice hoppy ipa to start with very bitter grapefruity citrus and pine flavors which changes to a sweeter citrus in the middle and a great sweet malty flavor with chocolate and coffee tones while still keeping the hoppy bitterness. This is a very complex and unique brew attached to a.... Very.... Interesting... And unique metal band (with an awesome name...)

Poured from a bomber to a pint glass. Thick, sweet, and tight head over a cola colored beer. The aroma was piney and a bit floral. The flavor for me was a semi-sweet malt character. The beer seemed well balanced, but not for a DIPA. If you go in expecting a really interesting hop character of an IPA, you’ll be disappointed. If you go in expecting a well balanced black ale, you’ll be happy. I rated it highly because I don’t care much about style as long as I enjoy drinking it, and I enjoyed this bottle very much. As others have said, though, it’s far more easy drinking than it is a really interesting and unique beer. But boy is it easy to drink!

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2014 Bottle at Mikkeller and friends. Pours dark brown with medium tan head leaving very sticky lacing. Nose is full of milk chocolate and roastiness while there is moderate piney hops and a very passionfruit forward note which balances the roast and goes hand in hand. Superb. Taste is woody and chocolate driven with big pine and tropical notes. A hint of pepper works well. Seriously drinkable stuff. Fantastic BIPA
