Its a Brown Ale. Tap at FFF. Filtered amber-brown, very translucent, transparent. Thin, unimpressive head. Sweet malty caramel aroma..really nice. This is a great brown ale. Sweet and full, but very palatable. Does have a UK feel, but a bold US body and hop bill. World Class, FFF nails another one. A perfect hoppy brown, an underrepresented style.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Uploading old ratings that were missing comments. Had this at the brewpub. Incredibly unique. Big sweet malt profile and there was one strong note that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Maybe not as hoppy as advertised.

Old rating, on tap at the brewpub late summer. Half pint. Way too mych carmel for my palate. Definately english malt in there. Signature 3 floyds hoppage. Decent, but I was a bit dissapointed in this one.

On tap at 3F, half pint. I only got it as I wanted no more than a half pint to finish off the meal. I’m not a fan of black lagers, but I’m warming up to black IPAs. Brown color with no head, toffee and caramel aroma. Taste was more of a roast malt with a touch of hops. 12/12

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap: pour is clear copper with a modest fine bubbled white head in this half pint glass.retention mild, with sticky lacing here. The nose is toffee, caramel, Brown sugar, and maple syrup. Yeah, this is a malt bomb, and the black IPA category is comical at best. The hop profile comes through on the tongue initial, with more heavy malt notes couples with scones for me. This one actually gives me some faith again, its been a while since ive had a New brew from fff that was as interesting as this one.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Brown pour with hardly any head. Aroma of deep caramel. A little citrus on the nose too. Mouth is medium bodied. Taste is big on sweet caramel. The hop component keeps this from being sickly sweet. Very easy to drink.

Oh man, 3F is still the best brewery in the Chicagoland area. Mentol is a superb take on the IPA- mega malts, lots of intense spice and roasted aromas going on here, with a boatload of earthtones and balanced browns and yellow colors. A real treat of a brew.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This poured a medium brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of herbal and grassy hops, some light fruit notes, nuts, and vanilla. Flavor was very unique, a nice blend of malty nutty vanilla soaked malts, blended with fresh and bitter hops. Great stuff.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. Hoppy nose with toasty and biscuit malt notes. Clear brown pour, off-white head with average retention. Flavor is toasty malts, a touch of chocolate, slight creaminess, some caramel notes, relatively high bitterness with some citrus and pine. Medium body/carbonation, slick on the palate.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
More like a amber ale IPA.
Draft at brew. Very tasty and complex. At the front of the tongue there is the typical FFF citrus hop bitterness, but immediately following are warming, toasted, sweet caramel notes. Really well balanced, easy to drink, very flavorful.
