Very tasty and rich brew with a strong pineapple quality and hoppy fresh flavors. Golden yellow with a nice head. Medium rich palate. Strong but drinkable and refreshing.

[Sampling at Scheffel.] Redbrown with long lasting lightbrown head. Aroma of caramel, sweetness, malt and alcohol. Flavor is barrel oak, hot caramel alcohol and with a very dry bitter warming alcoholic finish. Great beer!

(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Deep reddish-amber color. Aroma of piney hops. Bitter hoppy flavor with pine and some caramelly malt mixed in. Medium to full-bodied. Great!

Bottle at the Williamsburg Gathering courtesy of dkachur. Pour is copper/dark amber. Strong malty aroma to this. Dan (dkachur) has it right, it was "maltarded’ indeed! Big caramel notes, citrus, hop aromas, and sweet malts. Taste is big caramel and sweet, chewy malts, soft hops, mild alcohol warmth, citrus notes, light pine and light candied fruit. Body is medium-full with a creamy carbonation. Ends with more sweet malts, caramel, hops, citrus fruit and soft alcohol.

Bottle. Thanks to Enjoyit. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a creamy yellowish head. Aroma is chewy hops with a malty backbone and faint candy-like notes. Flavour is pretty much the same, but without the candy-like notes and with much more intense hops. The alcohol is felt, but is well-integrated. Finish is dry with lingering hops and a bit of liquorice notes. Also stingy alcohol notes which almost makes you short of breath (haven’t tried that in a beer before, not even stronger beers). It feels both light and heavy at the same time, which makes it easier to drink than usual barley wines, but without losing it’s potency. Overall it feels a bit one-dimensional though, due to the massive amount of hops, but it’s in a good way. 08-08-08.

Bottle courtesy of BrianK. Thanks Brian! Shared at the 2008 Richmond Summer Gathering in Williamsburg. Pours strawberry red with a medium head. Low head retention. Huge, massive grain and malt aroma with a tart fruitiness. Big earthy hop taste with a big dominating brown-sugary sweetness. "Maltarded" is the moniker the group came up with for this one. Full bodied.
