A barley wine with wheat? Oddly enough, it does taste like that. A strong, sweet beer with the soft tones of wheat. Really nice, good that someone thought about this combination.

Pours dark amber with a thick off white head. Smells of hops and flowers. Tastes of bitter and hops. Has low carbonation and long bitter. Tasty beer, but the Risgoop was better.

Vintage bottle received in trade from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a slightly hazy deep copper color with a smallish khaki head that persists for a while before leaving some lace on the sides. Aroma is sweet with bready, honey sweet, sugary malt. Lots of caramel and brown sugar, sweet orange and a bit of spice and earthy hop aroma. Surprisingly little alcohol aroma for a beer at almost 11%. The flavor is sweet and malty up front with a ton of brown sugary caramel. The alcohol shows itself in the flavor and provides a whole lot of warming on the way down. Deep orange and light sweet fruity flavors along with a hint of spice and earthy hop round out the flavor nicely. Very faint sherry like oxidation but not nearly as present as the oatgoop last night. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. This one’s holding up fairly well, I enjoyed the hell out of it, like an old Barleywine at Mike’s house in Feb.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy deep amber, with a large off-white head, which lasts well and leaves reasonable lacing. Resin and floral hops, fresh bread and a little banana make up the aroma. Strong pine resin, pepper and orange hops up front lead into soft toffee and spice in the mid-palate. There are some weizen-esque banana and cloves in the finish, mixing with more orange hops and some alcoholic warmth. This is quite an unusual, but also quite pleasant beer.

12oz tulip glass on tap at the Underground Tap and Grill in Edmonton pours a pale amber color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is grainy with some light fruits. Taste is a grainy malt and raisin sweetness with a leafy and grapefruit bitterness. Medium to heavy body with mild carbonation. Very similar to Boogoop but a little smoother. Definitely recommended.

Bottle at Bruce’s, thanks to jackl. It pours deep reddish-brown with a medium beige head. The nose is pine, light resin, sherbet, citrus peel, orange and caramel. The taste is wood, resin, leaf, brown bread, toast, spice, earth, alcohol warmth, berry and dull citrus with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Flavoursome, well balanced and rather tasty. Good stuff.

Bottle @ Bruce’s. Picked up from the one, the only, legendary Kris Wines. The pour’s deep red with a small head. The nose is spiced yule log, some jam, toffee, coffee cake. The taste is maple syrup. Strong earthy hop. Jam. Toasty malts. Moderately boozy on the finish. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, better than expected.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s during night one of Jack’s Farewell Tour in London - big thanks to Jack for this retiree. Pours clear ruby with a tight, creamy yellow-tan head. Nose holds some pine, drying ripe berries, a bit of bread. Big sweet flavor with lots of boozy kick, bitter pine, dry dirt, dry berries, dry toast. Full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Warm finish, bitter earth and pine, bready malts, berries, burnt caramel. Nice barley wine.

75 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy reddish amber with an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is peach, pine, grapefruit, and caramel. Flavour is pine, caramel, and grapefruit – with some warming alcohol leading to a bitter finish.
