Strong earthy hop. Jam. Toasty malts. Moderately boozy on the finish. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, better than expected.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s during night one of Jack’s Farewell Tour in London - big thanks to Jack for this retiree. Pours clear ruby with a tight, creamy yellow-tan head. Nose holds some pine, drying ripe berries, a bit of bread. Big sweet flavor with lots of boozy kick, bitter pine, dry dirt, dry berries, dry toast. Full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Warm finish, bitter earth and pine, bready malts, berries, burnt caramel. Nice barley wine.

A hint of alcohol. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body, thicker texture. Finishes light dry with a herbal note, alcohol, rich malts and citrus fruits. Quite nice.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 bigaddie (66) - - MAY 22, 2013
Molasses, dark caramel odor with the carbonation hitting the nose well. It appears like a good wine beer with reasonable opacity.
The odor doesn't do enough justice to the taste. Complex taste that starts with molasses and heads down the palate with an acidic finish. Lots happening in the middle of the tongue. Hops hit you right in the middle with a combination of citrusy and grassy taste.
It is quite a good beer that I can't wait to drink again... Wait, ordering my second!

On tap at Mikkeller & Friends, pours a deep dark ruby red with a small beige head. Aroma of rich caramel malts, deep dark fruits, and brown sugar -- very rich and fruity. Flavour of deep caramel tones, dark fruits, and dry bready malts. Full-bodied and dry fruity, with little sweetness. Rich palate, with a low sweetness and complex body. Excellent.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2013 Very drinkable barleywine, but not particularly interesting one. Not down the hoppy line like boogoop, but nice sweetness. Dry finish. Wouldn’t chase after.

Deep smell of hops, but also hints wheatbeer and caramelmalts. Red-ish amber whit huge white foamy head. Very sharp bitterness. Thin and refreshing mouthfeel. Nice look and smell, not as well tasting as I hoped after smelling.
