brewandbbq (228), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jun 17, 2008 Pours dark copper with a ruby hue. Significant chill haze and an inch-plus head of off-white.
The foam receded within a few minutes revealing a placid surface and zero lacework.
Aromatics lead off with plenty of grapefruit, delicous apples, spruce juice, and tangerine zest. A touch of lemon oil pulls through as well as cherry pulp and Grand Marnier.
Medium bodied and slick. Low carbonation and a heavy grainbill lends a syrupy quality.
A nice combo of malt and wheat lead off the pallet. Slightly tart under the sweet caramel malt, with plenty of resinous hops and citrus fruit follow through.
Spicy and warming. The alcohol builds and adds some cinnamon to the mix.
Bitterness is firm and smooth, which helps offset some off the honey-like residuals.
Finishes with a mix of earthy pine, grapefruit zest, and alcohol.
The hops in this one has mellowed quite a bit from the draught example I had at the Extreme Beer Fest, but the beer has become more rounded as well.
vyvvy (1689), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours clear reddish copper with a tan head. The aroma is very sweet wheat, brown sugar, molasses, hoppiness, some abv and lots of fruitiness. Medium / thick body with a good bit of semi-soft frothy carbonation. The flavor starts with alcohol, brown sugar, some cereal, toasty wheat malt and a bit of abv burn. The finish has lingering alcohol. This was good, but didn’t hide the high alcohol very well. wickedpete (555), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Aug 21, 2008 Thanks to Ryan for this one. Clear dark gold to amber color, thick beige head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy, brown sugar, and spicy hops. Nice bitter hop flavor balanced well with brown sugar maltiness, and an earthy hop character. Not too thick with a fairly dry finish. lassem (106), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 20, 2008 Pours a clear dark amber with a orange fluffy head. A little lazy appearence. The nose is peaches, orangepeel, caramels and tons of hops. A thick and overwhelming palate with a oily touch and sparkling on the tounge. Taste is with dark honey, brown burned sugar and a clearly presens of alcohol. The finish is long and very bitter...wont do good in the beer-bong..but slowly in the glass...lovely WeeHeavySD (1711), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bomber via trade a ways back, but I don’t really know who this came from, perhaps BBB63, if so thanks Mike.
