Grovlam (3086), Copenhagen, Denmark May 15, 2008 Bottle 66 cl. Large creamy thick beige head that really lasted. Excellent display of lacework. Somewhat cloudy amber color with a golden glow. Explosive and lovely sweet hoppy sniff with notes of peach, apricot, flowers. Also lots of overripe fruity, prunes and what appears as oak barreled notes. Over palate came toffee, wheat and mild toasted malty and bread like feel. Very full bodied with a lively carbonation and dry, mild alcoholic and surprisingly smooth texture for an American style Barley Wine. Very well balanced flavor between the heavy bitter and sweet. Lingering hoppy bitter and overripe fruity sweet finish. Excellent combined work of Mikkeller and Three Floyds…..More of that PLEASE!

Reminds me of a lightly hopped IIPA, like Hop 15, with all that caramelization. Smells ggood. Sweetish, malty, delicious. BrotherGrendel (155), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Sep 6, 2008 Tasting at PP Carlsbad, thanks to Peruster! Dark dense orange hue, off-white foam, thin lacing. Nose is wheat, yeast, sweet honey, caramel malts, grassy hops. Taste is bitter and drying wheat up front with sweet grain malts, yeast midway, grassy hops finish up sweet and dry. Thick and creamy texture with moderate carbonation. A nicely sweetened and balanced wheat wine with very drying finish, alcohol well-masked at 10%. Thomas_E (5030), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 4, 2008 Amber, reddish colour with an off white head. Malty, caramel sweet aroma with hoppy notes and hints of fruit and alcohol. Labelled 10.4% ABV Clear copper color, tan head. Sweet caramelly malty and grainy scent mixed with some citrusy hops and even more alcohol, some marzipan also. Bitter, more bitter finishing rather bitter taste. Alcohol aftertaste and also warming. Full mouthfeel, big bitternes. GAve it two rating, about 3.2 when honest, about 3.7 when considering it was a good effort, it did grow on me when getting more into the bottle, so finished at about 3.5 at last. vyvvy (1689), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours clear reddish copper with a tan head. The aroma is very sweet wheat, brown sugar, molasses, hoppiness, some abv and lots of fruitiness. Medium / thick body with a good bit of semi-soft frothy carbonation. The flavor starts with alcohol, brown sugar, some cereal, toasty wheat malt and a bit of abv burn. The finish has lingering alcohol. This was good, but didn’t hide the high alcohol very well.
