An amber ale with a small, fading head. The aroma is hoppy and thick with notes of alcohol, spices and grape. The flavour is hoppy with just a touch of oat and a nice oily and chewy palate. Ends bitter and medium. An ok beer, but not really woth the cost...

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Ed. Muddled copper-amber body, nearly no head, just a few stray bubbles outlining the edges. Aroma of dry grains & barley, stale toast, steel-y caramel, & a hint of sweet prune. Maybe some black licorice. Taste is a mix of old caramel with stale, earthy hops. Mild toffee, toasted rye bread, & light raisins in the finish. Oxidation is starting to set in a bit, as there’s an off note of staleness that lingers. Lightly sticky. Never been a fan of the Three Floyds "-goop" series, this one is merely "okay", at best. In all fairness, it might be past its prime, too.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, light aged citrus hops, toffee, faint vanilla, and oxidation. It pours a transparent amber with a small off-white head. The flavor starts with a quick dose of caramel with a hint of citrus. The finish really dies off with some faint oxidation and aged citrus hops. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Bomber purchased at one of the recent FFF cellar clearing sales. Nose is a decent barleywine. Sweet and spicy hard ribbon candy. Taste is English style barleywine. Any sweetness that was there is gone? Touh of old stale hops. You can tell this was hoppy when fresh 4 or 5 years ago. Ok. Possibly past it’s prime. I liked the rugg I had a couple weeks ago better. This convinced me not to track down the oldest goop, the only one I need to still tick.

Rated on 5-06-2009 (Bottle) The Appearance when poured is a medium sized fizzy off-white head, transparent amber body, fair amount of lacing, very fizzy, and fast rising carbonation. The Aroma is malty, caramel, grassy, citrus, and earthy hops. The Taste is semi-sweet, moderately bitter, malty, caramel, citrus, earthy hops, and this beer has a dry finish. The Palate is tingly and this beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer has a very hoppy aroma and worth trying.

Vintage bottle received in trade from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a mostly clear deep golden bordering on amber with about one fingers worth of head that dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is mostly orange and cherries with bits of bread, grains, and brown sugar thrown in there. Hints of earthy hop aroma are still hanging on as is a touch of alcohol. There’s a definite oxidized character setting in, but at this point its more sherry like than anything bad. The flavor is sweet with light and dark sugars, orange marmalade, light pitted fruits, and a hint of earthy hop flavor. Little to no hop bitterness is left. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. I had this once before thanks to Mr Barleywine, I wish I had taken some notes then to compare to now. Drinks like an aged barleywine, but a bit on the sweet side. I fear that any more age will obliterate any hops that are left to balance this beer.

66 cl bottle @ home. Pours clear dark amber with an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is caramel, dried fruit, malt, hops, and booze. Flavour is much like aroma – with a bitter finish.
