Bottle... Backus’s Backdoor Bash ‘08... This beer rocks!... Pours pitch black and sits, menacingly, in my glass. Small, creamy, well-tanned head. Decent retention. Chocolaty, roasted nut aroma. Full-bodied with a velvety/silky mouthfeel and supple carbonation. Sweet, chocolaty and very lightly acrid. Lengthy, pleasantly sweet finish. Thanks to dchmela for sharing the bottle!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big thanks to BBB63 for providing me with a hand bottled sample of this gem. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, milky and I think Eric hit it dead on when he said marshmellows. Aromas where stronger than the tastes with tastes of chocolate, milky, roasted malts and a little nutty. Worthy of seeking out.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2012 Bottle with Steve and the Foco BA crew. Dark brown appearance with a brown head. Milky, chocolate malty, light coconut, a bit roasty aroma. A bit sweet milky chocolate, a touch fruity, ever so slightly smoky flavor that’s well carbonated.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours near black with a thick tan head. The nose is smooth, creamy, roasted malt, milky coffee, cocoa, earth, light spice and toast. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, milk chocolate, creamy, toasty, horlicks, earth and charred toast with a dry finish. Med+ body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Not a whole lot of depth, but great balance and high drinkability for the abv.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective tasting on 12/10/08:Thanks to JaBier for sharing a bottle. The beer pours nearly black with dark brown around the edges. Ultra-thin dark beige head that diminishes quickly, and spotty lacing. Aroma of coffee and milk chocolate with a nice roasty undertone. Medium, creamy body with flavors of coffee and roasted malt, as well as a nice sweet chocolate presence. The finish is bittersweet chocolate with a roasted coffee aftertaste. Very good overall.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
650 ml bottle, only 6.49 from Discount Liquor in Milwaukee, in a state that FFF doesn’t distribute to, yet I can only find it for 9.99 in Illinois. Quirkly label art adorns the bottle.
Pours a dark black/brown with a small caramel colored head. Leaves come nice lacing.
Smell is really sweet, almost like a chocolate stout but with less cocoa flavor. Also has the roasted malt scent. Maybe even some vanilla in there.
Taste is mega sweet and delicious. More so than the other milkstouts I have had, it isn’t as creamy as some but it really feels and tastes like a decadent dessert. Very chocolatey, sugary, and carmally, decadence. No too sweet, not too heavy either, a really well produced beer.
This is about as drinkable as it gets for a stout and it is a great beer to cap the night off with.
