Fantomas23 (462), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 6, 2007 A tired American interpretation of an Oktoberfest beer. Sorry, I’m crabby today. Just doesn’t hit the spot but it does have the proper notes: deep color color with a righteously fluffy white head; not much aroma but what’s there suggests caramel; taste is a little less subtle where I find that caramel again with some ripe pears and a hint of spiciness at the end; palate is clean and refreshing - definitely something that can be guzzled. Now that my glass is empty, though, I do wish I had more.
WickerBrew (278), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2008 Not a style that lends itself to many differences, this is about as good as a marzen can get. The thing that got me was how clean it tasted, must have been a very fresh bottle. Probably way too expensive for a lager, but for a one off on my favorite brewery i can deal with it. AndrewKScott (399), Lemont, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pours a reddish orange color with thick white head. Aroma is grassy, a bit dry. The malt profile is intense, flavorful. Better than most Marzens. But, it’s three floyds, so that is to be expected. Good beer, again better than pretty much every other Oktoberfest I’ve had. 17thfloor (721), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 19, 2008 Pours a glowing orange/amber with a small off-white frothy head. Sweet sugary malt aroma with some sour grassiness. Sugary malt flavor, light toastiness, with some light noble bitterness, not very interesting or exciting... definitely FFF’s over-the-topness, but surprisingly could use more hops! Too sugary. drfabulous (737), Columbia, Missouri, USA Aug 23, 2008 A lager. Yes. But 3Floyds style. Bit of fruity taste. Not nearly as malty as a traditional Marzen. Still, I get caramel sweetness. Not a style I like too much, but this one is nice. Ungstrup (11353), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 27, 2008 GABF 2007. A slightly hazy golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of alcohol. The flavor has notes of malt, alcohol, and fruit, leading to a dry and slightly bitter finish where notes of straw lingers. Disappointing.
