COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When Baller Stout was created, bourbon barrels were filled with Surly Darkness, Three Floyds Dark Lord, De Struise Black Albert, and Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch

These were aged for 14 months seperately and blended together to taste.

Bottle graciously shared by Adam. Thanks!! Pours pitch black, thick and oily with a big brown head. Nose is full of roast, molasses, caramel and faint hops. Oily notes and ethanol. Quite clean. Bourbon and oak permeate. Vanilla and char. On tasting, quite smooth overall. Big and full bodied with a nice barrel integration. Some sweetness but really balanced by drying roast and sufficient bitterness. One of the best BA stouts that I’ve had in a while.

Coffee, sweet cocoa malts, lots of bourbon, intensely boozy, pretty tasty. It’s really tough to drink though, and it doesn’t really offer some extremely novel take on the style. I’d rather have countless other RIS, since I struggled to finish 6 oz. of this one and have downed entire bottles of Speedway on my own.

Cocoa powder, toasted malt, coffee beans, dark fruit, tobacco, and wood. Potent bittersweet taste, astringent, and a bit vinous. Smooth, oily, full bodied, and rich.

Big thanks to DocJ007 for busting this one open for us at the last monthly tasting. Served right after Baller for comparison sake.

A - Pours ink black with a decent one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small trails of lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, molasses, dark fruits, plenty of woody oak, warm bourbon and lots of dark roasted malt. Much better than the base but still a touch out of focus, I guess that is expected.

T - Starts off with the sweetness - mainly the molasses, vanilla, dark fruits and dark chocolate - slowly being joined by the coffee, oak, toffee, smooth bourbon and the ever present dark roasted malt. Finish is sweet and roasty with a bit of dryness at the end of each sip, lingering long after the finish.

M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, creamy feel makes it very easy to consume. Very little of the reported 14% is noticeable.

O - I am not a fan of the base beer at all but this is very good. I would have never guessed it would be this good to have this many beers blended together. I am honestly surprised how much the barrel has smoothed everything out. Glad I could finally try this one, thanks again Justin!

Bottle from MeadMe, HUGE thanks for sending it my way so I could share it with the Tasters Choice group! Pours a thick viscous black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates quickly. Huge rich malty aromas of brown sugar, caramel, molasses, coffee, dark chocolate, light wood and hints of bourbon, light fruit and smoke. Huge complex nose that I could park my nostrils over all night. The flavor is richly complex like the aroma suggested. Huge sweet sugary maltiness as a base to a bit of chocolate and roasted grains set in some bourbon oak and lightly smokey with touches of fruit and earth. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation. Fantastic frigging beer right here! If I weren’t driving sat night I would have seriously Bogart-ed this bottle!

Bottle, 05/31/2014. Pours black, hazy light tan head rests on the surface, thin ring of lacing left behind. Aroma is dark chocolate, licorice, strong bitter roast, touch of coffee, well-integrated caramel, vanilla, beautiful bourbon finish. Taste is rich dark chocolate, moderately sweet, intense roasted malts, touch of licorice, a bit hoppy bite, bourbon finish. Thick, chewy body. Outstanding.

Bottle share 2013. Pour is black with a small off-white head. Aroma is of chocolate fudge, darker fruits, roast, and bourbon. Flavor has notes of vanilla, cherries, dark chocolate, molasses, bourbon, and booze. Finish is hot and sweet. Oily texture, low carbonation.

750ml bottle at Three Floyd’s. Original review 12-12-12.

Pours black, light tan-colored head, wisps on top. Nose is roast, light char, lots of booze, barrel, and bakers chocolate. Flavor is lots of bourbon, chocolate, and oak barrel influence. Pretty hot right now but has the characteristics to smooth out with age. Full body, rich, creamy, sweet finish.

This will age nicely over time and has some room to smooth out and meld together. Really nice beer and large improvement over Baller Stout.

Bottle thanks to Minh. Pours a black with medium creamy tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is chocolate, booze, cocoa, vanilla, oak. Slick mouthfeel and very sweet chocolate, roast, vanilla, and boozey finish that lingers. Stoked to finally try this, really enjoyed it.

Black pour, dark tan head that goes away. Nose is bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, very sweet. Taste is as expected from the aroma: bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, big sweetness but not saccharine. Smooth, sticky mouthfeel.
