4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Imperial Pint at FFF on 4/20. Sort of an excessive massive beige head..steady. Sweet chocolate aroma. Whereas the Alpha Klaus lets the hops shine, this is rich and chocolaty. Smooth on the palate. World Class, this is fantastic. Roasty, oily, cocoa action. Creamy smooth finish, a hint of chocolate covered bitterness. Big, bold, delightful.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at brewpub, this poured black with a small tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, and picked up some sort of pine smell to it. Taste is similar to Alpha Klaus with less hops to it but very rich and creamy with nice carbonation and a deep roasty finish to it. Overall this was nice but i love the Klaus much better.CHEERS!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Nice variation on a Porter, almost like one of those quirky old-style recipes Pretty Things sometimes uses. Hefty dark brown pour, nice thick body that’s almost like a side with lunch. Serious roasts in the nose but there’s also a delicate, inviting whiff of tartness in there, perhaps almost briny. Very silky texture, a bit of grit in the finish and these qualities tended to accentuate the dry and roasty elements quite nicely. But there’s that little twang to give it its distinctiveness again. A nice porter overall.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Revolution. Pours a dark chocolatey brown, tan head. Nose is cocoa, faint hops overall. Clean. Some light ester notes. On tasting, medium bitterness and chocolate forward, light acrid roast. Low hops for a FFF beer. Very drinkable and pretty generic overall. Medium sweetnes with some charcoal notes as well. Nice enough.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours black with a reddish tint and a khaki head, great retention. Aroma is french roast coffee, baker’s chocolate, some dank pine. Taste is chalky chocolate, coffee, some pine. Body is rich and creamy, medium carbonation, long roasty finish. Overall, the night before I drank this at the pub I opened a bottle of 2011 Alpha Klaus and these 2 beers are nearly indistinguishable, Mushy just has less hops.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub on friday night before DLD ’12.
An excellent, classic porter. Filled with dry roasted nuttiness, chocolate, and robust malts. Starts off with slightly sweet, with some chocolate and light fruit. Ends with a dry, hearty maltiness. The hops take a backseat on this one, only stepping in to help balance things out. It seems like a good, traditional English porter.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a very roasty porter with a nice creamy texture. It pours a deep garnet brown. The nose is subdued but the flavor is bursting with vibrant coffee-like roast character. Texture is rich and thick but this is a rather dry beer and not at all sticky sweet. A slight tartness and smokiness comes out as it warms. It finishes strong with a rounded bitterness. Well done, top to bottom.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brew pub. This is kind of a thing. It pours near black with a fruit tan head. Aroma of chocolate, must, earth. Some roast, a bit of dried leaves and basement. Flavor is different, unexpected, yet quite enjoyable. Soft milk chocolate notes nestled in rich earthy tobacco notes. Mild roast and a slight lactic acid twinge. Very interesting. The body is kept light, which fits the flavor profile. Finishes very earthy. Good beer, a nice surprise.
