4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap@MikkelBarCopenhagen. Perfect aroma! What else do you want in a Barley Wine American style? Absolutely great flavours as well: raisin, vanilla, tangerine, lots of hops. Powerful yet not too aggressive.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at DLD 2009. All the reviews for the Barrel Aged Behemoth indicate that it was a bourbon-barrel aging, so I’ve added this one. Note also that this was not the oak aged with cherries--unfortunately, I didn’t get to sample that one.
A: Fairly dark, molasses type color. Slightly reddened with a creamy off-white head.
S: A good whiff of oak alongside sweet and creamy malt. Quite similar to the regular Behemoth, but quite a bit lower on the hop scent than fresh Behemoth.
T: Sweet and complex. The oak has definitely done a number here, and comes out very well. It melds with Behemoth’s flavor quite well, creating a subtle spiciness. Some caramel flavoring is definitely there.
M: Thick, full-bodied, and very creamy. Low to moderate carbonation.
D: Very good stuff. The flavor of the oak is a little much to drink a lot of this, but that just encourages slow sipping. Solid beer all around. Hope to have this one again.

Tap at DLD
Aroma is sweet red fruit, some booze, touches of sherry and lots of oak.
Taste is sweet with some left over gravity, a bit more booze, caramel, and subdued hops.
Finishes dry, yet coats the mouth. Oak is a bit assertive.

Tap DLD 09!! Brown pour tan head. Tons of oak, toffee, and brown sugar notes. Flavor is much the same. Rich full and sweet. I like what the Oak did to this. MMMMM.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at DLD 09. Pours murky brown with a tan head. Aroma is of caramel, malt, oak, sugar, dark fruit, and cinnamon. Taste starts off with a heavy dose of oak and sugary fruits, mostly raisins. Underneath the oak was a nice backbone of caramel malt. Lots of brown sugar and alcohol. Lingering alcohol bite with lots of vanilla coming through at the end of each sip. Body seemed oddly light and drinkable. Mouthfeel was creamy. The beer seemed a tad bit oxidized, probably accounting for the lightness of the mouthfeel. A lot of the barley wine elements dissapeared beneath all the oak and alcohol. Still, a decent beer to try.

At 2009 DLD. I don’t recognize the Behemoth here that I know. Lots of vanilla and oak. The barley wine seems completely gone. Lots of alcohol in the bite.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
sampled at 2008 FOBAB....pours a semi transparent cinnnamon brown pour with a thin off-white head... sweet toffee and vanilla scents with some added bourbon barrel qualities... flavors of sweet dark fruit with bourbon. smooth consistency with a medium mouthfeel. tasted very similar to barrel aged moose knuckle but i give this one the slight edge as it was less boozy to me.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
FoBAB 2008. Murky brown copper body with a nice creamy white head. The aroma is sweet oaken barleywine with tons of sweet caramelized malts. Nice. The flavor is powdered malt, sweet barley, and a lot of fusels. The hops are quite apparent. A touch hot. Very sweet. I was mostly un-impressed.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2009 FoBAB 08. Pours a hazed caramel with a tall beige head. Lots of oak, and a red fruity alcohol in the nose. Alcohol, red fruit malts, caramel, and vanilla flavors. The alcohol is a little overbearing and seems slightly hairspray like with the oak. Still a decent beer. 8/4/7/4/15 = 3.8
On tap at DLD 09. Pours a dark brown red with a beige creamy head. Rich toasted aroma that is sweet, complex and inviting. Rich caramel flavors with red fruit. Slightly bitter, but all around really tasty. 8/4/8/4/16 = 4.0
