Small taster pour at three floyds, munster... Pours a predominantly darker apple cider brown pour with a thin to medium sligtly off-white head... Mostly dark fruits and caramel malt in the nose, mostly sweet and and smewhat cloying... Flavors are mostly of the same. Sweet profile with dak fruits taking precedence followed up by some earthy hops. Medium bodied, not too full but the sweetness aspect is a tad too big.

tap at brewpub. pours a clear copper with barely any head. aroma of brown sugar, brandy and booze fill the nostrils. taste of grain alcohol, doughy medicinal caramel, and cane sugar. a big, warming flavorful barley wine. good in small doses, but too hot to pound.

On such a hot day I was hoping to get a sample of the mild ale. In a pinch this was a solid backup. Possessing the typical overhopped traits of a Three Floyds beer it comes out on the offensive and never lets up. Reaffirming that they are still on top of their game this is the sort of beer that more brewers should be working to release rather than yet another safe boring pale or amber.

Aroma / Appearance - Carbonated foamy chunks of white head look like melting vanilla ice cream atop the sherry brown base. Semi-transparent and murky it is hard to see through even in direct sunlight. Resin, caramel, cedar, and malts offset the hop intensity nicely. Overall it has a bite which does not overwhelm the rest of the experience.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel, molasses, a wave of hoppiness, and then grapefruit parade across the tongue in succession. The resulting mouthfeel is creamy and a bit heavy for a warm day. However the texture is chewy enough that I was able to take some time to savor it rather than feeling rushed to make it to the next tent. An all around excellent barleywine I suspect that if this is bottled I may have to pick up some if I see it on the shelves.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a lightly hazed, orange-amber colored body with a thin, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a veil of lacing throughout. Aroma is sweet pines with a citrus blend, cherry fruit cocktail, and rich caramels. Definitely a distinct English hop spice to this. A touch of bread and florals too. Flavor is nice. Lots of fruity caramels with pineapple, oranges, and more cherry fruit cocktail. An even English hopping throughout with a nice earthy spice and pine thrown in too. Solid caramel backing with some bready toffees. A hint of sherry comes out in the finish as this dries with a medium bitterness and a light resin. Lots of lingering fruity caramels and English pines for a fairly lengthy duration. Medium-full, smooth body with a light, soft carbonation. Overall, a very easy drinking barleywine with no hint of alcohol. Fruity with a solid hop presence and sturdy malt backing. I liked this one a lot.

Fad: Orange øl med et fint lille skumhoved. Duft af humle og malt, en god del humle. Næsten IIPA, typisk amerikansk style og ikke english style. Men fin fin øl og meget drikbar.

Phone rate, $9 snifter @ the brewpub. Cloudy brown with a small beige, fading to a ring before long. Big bourbon barrel nose. Flavor is loaded with bourbon and old wood, lots of spicy boozy heat, some of caramel and toasty malt. Caramel and toffee also present, but that booze dominates all. Dry, burning all the way down the throat, warming the belly. Bitterness at a 2-3. Big full body with low prickly carbonation. So overbourbonated I have trouble finding the base beer beneath. Bourbon’s good, though. . . I did like this better than the rating, due to the bourbon.

Draft at brewpub. Pours amber with off whitehead. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, ale ester. Medium bodied with semi soft carbonation. Flavor or toffee and caramel malts, with that English hard water and orange tang. Bitterness is there, but not over the top. Excellent

On tap at 3F. Pours hazy dark amber with small off-white head. Aromas of sweet malts, dark fruits, caramel, and booze. Flavor of candied sugar, sweet malts, caramel, some booze, and strong licorice flavor. Mouthfeel is a little syrupy.

On tap at the brewery. Amber pour with an off whitehead. Nose of citrus caramel malt dough and pine. Sweet caramel and toffee malts with a citrus bitterness. Lightly sweet finish. Not a bad interpretation of an English barleywine, but of course more hopped than a true English barleywine - but hey i’m not complaining. Solid 7/4/7/4/15
