But it was very tasty with a sutble note in the background that reminded me of Grape juice . All in all not to bad . It,s pretty smooth drinking and offer a pretty good buzz. Grape, breakfast pastrey aromas were noted. The alcohol is strong right off the bat, with some raisin and sour dough maltyness. The hops mixed in with the alcohol quite well until after the swallow, when only the dry hops remain. Not bad when served at cellar temp, but over hopped if served any cooler. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA

Robert the Bruce poured a deep dark mahogany that was surprisingly clear when held to the light. Half-finger off white head that faded quickly to a thin consistent coating.
The smell is good although a little on the weak side. There is an abundance of toasted malt. This is followed up by some dark fruit with a touch of sweetness.
The taste comes out as a smooth toasted grain followed by a slightly bittersweet coffee. The bitterness fades but a small amount sticks around. This isn’t one of the most complex beers I’ve ever had but it is enjoyable.
Medium bodied and smooth. Leaves a nice little carbonation tingle on my tongue after the swallow.
Drinkability is good for a 7% brew, The smoothness and medium body lets you drink a few. The taste doesn’t hurt either.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2007 This isn’t my favorite style, but 3floyds made it more than drinkable. From a 12 oz bottle. Poured dark copper brown with a smallish head that left pretty quick. The aroma was malty with caramel notes. I expected all malt flavor. Although it is tilted toward the malt there is enough hop bitterness to carry the malt. A little bit of peat flavor with lots of dark roast malt and caramel. Overall a satisfying ale that is worth the $8/6 pk price tag. I think I’ll have another. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 26, 2007 12oz bottle (thanks to ogglethorp) poured a clear brownish/red color with a small off white head. The aroma was smoky with caramel, chocolate, roast and some fruity esters from the yeast. The taste was really clean along with a small peaty flavor. The hops were noticable in both the bitterness and flavor wich is not typical for the style. Not as big of a body or as rich as I had expected, yet still a very drinkable Scottish Ale. rayg1 (445), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 24, 2007 This beer was graciously shared with me by Daniel (00cobraR). This pours out a deep red practically brown with a decent little head on it. Daniel, informed me that this beer had about a year and a half age on it and that the hops were more subdued than when the beer was fresh. The smell was caramel and a bit of malty sweetness. The taste is was sells the beer. Deep malts with a nice peat flavor and a just the right touch of hops. This stuff was exceptional brew! hogan873 (334), Joliet, Illinois, USA

Deep red with a medium off-white head. Not a lot of aroma, but there are hints of caramel and maybe vanilla. Nice on the palate, decent carbonation. The taste is quite good. Crisp and clean up front and finishes with just a touch of bitterness. Flavors of chocolate and caramel are noticeable. A very good beer.
