Nomber. Poured medium golden with a creamy, well-retained eggshell head.. nice lacing. The aroma picked up a whole helluva lot of mango, with pineapple and peppery rye also showing.. loved it! The flavor found sweet tropical fruit and biscuity malts at the core.. juicy mango, pineapple, black pepper, and rye around.. lots of tropical fruit bitterness and rye on the long, belly-warming finish. Medium-bodied, juicy, and engaging on the palate.. great stuff!

650ml bottle. Unfiltered orange pour with a soapy white head and nice lacing. Rye instantly notcable in the aroma. It smells sweet and boozy, tropical fruit, and rye which adds a bit of exotic breadiness. The flavor is nice and tropical. Sweet with a booze tinge but not overpowering. Medium bitterness that is all pine and helps cut the sweetness. A solid one.

22oz high shoulder bottle courtesy of StFun pours with an opaque orange copper body that supports a nice looking off white head of foam. The aroma offers up citrus notes of tangelo and getting into some grapefruit with a dash of lemon. These aromatic notes are deepened by thin streams of sweet maltiness. The taste is rich and deliciously bold with malt sweetened grapefruit as well as a mix of tangelo and orange. The citrus hops get progressively more bitter to midway. This is just yummy richness from front to back with a pleasing degree of balance as well.

Bottle. Pours a clear orange amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of grapefruit and earthy pine with some underlying rye and citrus. Flavor starts with rye and earthy pine but is joined by resin and grapefruit.

phaleslu (6204) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 30, 2013
22 oz. bottle via local trade. Pours a cloudy golden color with a small white head. Notes of pine, sweet and biscuity malts, rye, and citrus peel. Light-medium bodied, with a bitter, resinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Nothing stands out here quite like in the Rye’d Da Lightning, which I liked a bit better than this one. It was cleaner and worked better for me.

5000 (6180) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - AUG 11, 2013
Bottle:   Fiery amber, hazy, thin to moderate frothy white head, nice lacing.   Pale sweet citrusy and fruity nose, hoppy too.   Semi-sweet citrus and pith on the tongue.   I thought it would be more floral or fragrant, but seems fairly average.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Sweet pith and citrus peel on the finish.   Doesn’t seem like an IIPA, perhaps a bigger IPA, but its not overly hopped or on the malty side.   Well crafted, but to me, very much middle of the road.   Thanks to fatknitty for the bottle!

Scopey (6140) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 27, 2012
Bottle from a trade with George. It pours clear orange with a medium white head. The nose is pine, orange, tangerine, mango, touch of marmalade and some creaminess. The taste is grapefruit, mango, resin, spice, pine, assertive bitterness, alcohol, earth and light metal with very long bitter-dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Flavoursome, good bitterness and well balanced. As usual these guys deliver.

Bottle and served in tulip: Pours a deep golden hue but with a ton of floaties which was not expected, lasting frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma and lots of rye notes along with resiny, piney, and lightly citric hop esters. Pepper and clove with a touch of caramel and Melanoidin malts. Great nose on this beer. The taste is spruce, pepper, grapefruit, clove and rye bread over a layer of biscuit and aspirin... not sure what to make of it but strangely I like it. The mouth feel is more medicinal and chalky note and a tad boozy. The least favorite part of this brew. I like many things brought to the table but still feel something does not quite mesh together. Muddled and astringent as hell.

lusikka (5936) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAY 9, 2013
650 ml bottle.
Pours a dark copper golden colour with a white head. Aroma of rye, bread, biscuity malts and grass. Flavour of rye, biscuity malts, grassy hops, strong citrus, floral notes and some caramel. Medium bodied, thick mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Finishes sticky, floral, bitter and a bit musty. A bit musty because of rye, but the hop profile is still excellent. Great.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy orange with a medium white head. Aroma is quite skunky and herbally, some buttery malts, and a little rye. Flavour is heavy on the rye, but never too overburdening, with loads of resinous and citrus hops. Lots of flavour and very enjoyable, but not one of my favourite IIPAs by Three Floyds.
