Rating from notes. On draft at the pub. Pours a dark brown/black pour. Nice, tan head. Aroma of herbal and leafy hops, lots of chocolate. Flavor is chocolatey, with a nice herbal hop finish. Nice, thick bodied. Overal, good beer./

Thought I rated this before. On tap at the brewpub, mid octoberish. Brown pour frothy brown cream head. Very hoppy aroma, citruis and pine. Smells like an IPA. Taste is more hops with a bit of choc and roasted malt. I’d venture to say that this is closer to black IPA, but has the thicker body or a well rounded porter. Very enjoyable.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 jdavisesq (38) - - NOV 26, 2012
Poured on tap at Duke's alehouse crystal lake, Illinois. Pours dark black with one inch head. Smells of roasted grain, grassy. Has immediate roast taste followed by sharp citra twang. A bit toasty and hoppy for a porter, but still a wonder.

Pours a dark brown with a brownish off white head. Aroma consists of citra and coffee. An OSS combination and a little watered down. Points earned on uniqueness.

On tap @ Publican in Chicago. How is this not a black IPA? Incredibly hoppy porter in true 3F fashion, delicious, incredibly drinkable. But truthfully, it is the hops that steal the show here, fresh and bright and yummy.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 novels (332) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 3, 2012
Expertly malted porter with loads of character. A nice nutty nose with a underlying hop flavor, perfect texture and crisp tones. I loved the lace this one left on the glass, and it really did have a great toffee nut flavor. I want to drink this again!

From The Owl tap. Tastes like a stout! Citrusy and a hint of chocolate. Smells good.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is highly hopped with lots of resiny, juicy grapefruit pines and some tropical floral touches with a heavier roast backing. Good amount of rich chocolates with some toffee as well. Flavor is similar. Lots of juicy, resiny grapefruit and orange pines with some floral tropicals alongside a good amount of roasts. The chocolate really comes on nicely towards the end to help balance the big hop and roast finish as this dries with a moderate bitterness. Medium body and a softer, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty cool porter. Really juicy, resiny, and citrusy with a solid roast and rich chocolate backing. Nice one.

Fantastic porter!
On tap at brewery. Entirely opaque black with a light mocha very creamy head with great retention. At first when at it’s coolest the pine and grapefruit citrus hop notes preside with coffee in the back ground, then as it warms the hops let the coffee, toasted caramel, and smokey flavors come through.
