3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ Mikkeller Bar. Deep sludgy brown with no head. The nose is deep toffee and chocolate, some coffee beans and cherry. Malty brown sugar sludge. The taste is chewy chocolate bars and light caramel, some brown sugar with a lightly hot finish. The body’s slightly thin and watery. A bit boozy, too. Overall, decent. But not a top effort from FFF.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at Mikkeller Bar. It pours almost black, with a thick tan head. The nose is meat, caramel, toasted coconut, almond and cocoa. The taste is caramel, roasted malt, sweet fruit, filter coffee, meat, toasted coconut and cocoa, with dryness in the finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Not quite as complex as I hoped for. So-so.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a thick dark brown with a small tan head and is almost opaque in the glass. The aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and vanilla. The taste is sweet, malty, and roasty with a long bitter finish. Nice oily texture and a smooth mouthfeel. Another great beer from 3Floyds and easily one of the best Doppelbocks I’ve ever had.

22oz bottle thanks to exiled.
Deep ruby brown pour with some tan head. Nose of dark fruit, roasted malt, and chocoalte. Flavor is smooth and malty with a fudgey finish. Starting to think Three Floyds can do any style out there.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
First of all, this is more like a Baltic Porter than any Doppelbock I’ve ever laid my lips on. That said, this beer is unreal; cellared for 10+ months in ideal conditions. Pours opaque black with a thin dark brown head that quickly fades to a ring. Aroma is big roasty chocolate, raisins, massive earthiness, coffee, some clean malt lager character, signature FFF green hoppiness. Taste is rich dark chocolate, raisin, coffee, some caramel and toffee, earthy spicy hoppiness. Body is full and chewy, medium carbonation, long roasty finish. Overall, this kind of reminds me of Alpha Klaus if it were brewed with lager yeast.
