3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Rated on 6-23-2012 (Draft at 800 Degrees Pizza) This beer has a small off-white head with a long retention, hazy golden body, very little carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is orange peel, pepper, spicy, ginger, yeast, and coriander. The flavor is sweet, peppery, ginger, and spicy. The mouthfeel is soft carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. This is a sipping beer with a different flavor for the style. This is not one of Three Floyd’s better beers in my opinion.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This draft brew from a restaurant poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized dark yellow brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a extremely softly carbonated body and an excellent lacing. The aroma was floral bready mild malt and dough. The thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The complex flavor contained notes of ginger spices herbal and hops which were noticeably tingly in the back of the throat. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. The spicy note would be excellent with pizza.

Had on tap at FFF, poured into a snifter.
A: Poured a cloudy orange, almost like an overly sugared orange juice. Nice thick white head, a little over 1 finger, with not much retention. Leaves a good lace on the way down.
S: Very yeasty and sweet smelling, almost like bubblegum. There was also some citrus and spiced pepper notes in there.
T: There are so many flavors going on ridiculous. Big bubblegum yeasty with an orange citrus backbone. The white pepper gives it a nice spiced kick at the end. A nice web of flavors.
M: Very creamy and smooth. Medium bodied with a medium carbonation. Leaves a nice spicy citrus on the palate.
O: Ridiculous cornucopia of flavors. I liked this, but I don’t think I could have more than one in a sitting. I’m glad it came in the mini-snifter. Anything else it might have been too much.

Eesh. Brewed with OJ concentrate. Tastes like it. Did not enjoy tis one bit. The belgian yeast with the bitter OJ concentrate produces an astringent, bitter flavor I found quite undesirable. Took me back to when Mom used to make juice from concentrate, and not in a good way.

tap - Pours hazy yellow-orange with a small white head. It smells of oranges and yeast. The flavor is fruity with mainly oranges. It’s sweet with some alcohol apparent and a mild bitterness in the finish. It’s medium bodied and has a very smooth palate. Different. Good.

Ye Gods - Vile really. Well, no, my first taste left me convulsing in disgust, but it got better as I took to it - though only slightly. The nose actually has a quite engaging orange vodka like nose. A little spice too. Then in the mouth it hits - Strong orange concentrate and a vodka like alcohol kick. Not really wit or even beer like. Difficult to finish. If it were a bottle, this would be drain fodder.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear golden orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laced. Aroma has a good amount of citrus with some sweet wheat and a hint of light spice. Flavor has citrus and flora with a heavy spice and backing sweet wheat.

From notes. First reviewed 8/8/2011. Served on tap in a chalice at Northdown.
My glass arrives with a cloudy orange liquid filling up the glass with the identifying Three Floyds off-white head on top. Spots of lace cling to the glass as the level drops. This certainly looks imperial compared to any other Witbier I have had.
This smells like an orange, almost like Blue Moon with half an orange squeezed in it. That’s not really a compliment. Full wheat, coriander, and orange zest really dominate.
The flavor is full to be sure. Sweet wheat up front, some banana, pepper, coriander, and a burst of orange citrus. There is only one level though, there is no depth or real complexity here.
The mouthfeel follows the name of the beer - thick. A medium carbonation exists here but seems to undershoot what would be necessary to make this better. Sticky.
This is just too cloyingly sweet. As I consumed the glass, I kept knocking off a point here, a point there from the score because it was fairly difficult for me to finish the glass. It does not surprise me to learn afterward that orange juice concentrate was used. Hopefully that is a mistake they will not make again.
