Amber color out of the bottle with a thin slick of off white bubbles. Winey nose with some fruit, vinegar and alcohol. This is mostly dominated by the oak barrel, with some vanilla, wine, vinegar, and a little funk. This is an oddly funky barrel aged beer.

Sampled this at Frank’s tasting in Philly. A weird mixed bag of a brew - a little of everything - sour, sweet, bitter, funky, wine-like. Interesting and powerful for sure, but a headscratching mess.

Sampled at Frank’s tasting, courtesy of Vinny I believe. Pours a dark amber honey body with medium white head. Aroma is sweet oak, honey, grain and malts. Mouthfeel is medium with the honey character dominating. Backing notes of fruit, wood, light earth, spice, pepper and grain.

Bottle shared with a good 10 heads at Franks’ tasting. Poured dark amber brown with medium beige head. Aromas of malt, wood, dark fruit, figs, honey and grain. Taste is sweet malt and honey, grape juice, fig newton, pepper and oak. A tad spicy in the chest. I thought this would be much worse then it was, still not great.

Soured, but oaked? Odd, complex. Shut it Uncle Jim, it is good. Just not quite a 4.

Aged an additional half year or so, perhaps longer. Pours a ruby orange amber. Medium, creamy white head, partially lasting with good lace. Pretty big aroma, syrupy sweet, caramel, yeast, sour fruit, sweet fruit, woody and a little ’wild’, wine, perhaps a touch vanilla - very complex. Medium body. Yeasty and spicy upfront with some maltiness. Some even bitterness. Just a light touch of tart. Finish is light fruity sweet, woody dry. Lovely balance. Very complex palate. Smooth alcohol warming in throat. Not too boozey. I think the extra age really mellowed and smoothed things out.

Smells like fig newtons. sweet, a little syrupy. a bit of booze//wine. dark, dried fruit. a bit of spice. complex. Taste is complex as well. A little sweet, again, like a fig newton. Spice. End almost seems to smooth out, with vanilla added, and then possibly, not sure how to describe it, bitter, woody. Very complex, every sip I notice something different.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a stem glass. Cloudy rust brown. Nose has notes of wood with hints of lambic sourness. There is brown sugar as well. Flavour is sweet up front with notes of cedar and oak. Then the sour spikes. Long finish with sour predominating but lingering sweetness in the background. What an interesting creation from Three Floyds. It is perhaps a bit eccentric for some tastes but I loved it.

Murky brown Nose of dried fruits and burnt oranges. Loads of honey. Taste is tart. Mild oranges. Oaky and cherries. Prunes and silky smooth.
