Draft 8 oz. "mini-shaker" at 3Fs. Thin but noticeably brown head atop a porter to stout dark body. A sharp coffee smell I havenít found in the Baltic strain of porter before. Flavor is strong with coffee hard candies, but still a bit of lager cleanness. Threads of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Canít say it goes down easy; I had to wrestle it a little. But when it finally yields, it does so nicely.

Bottle mules back from Discount Liquors in Milwaukee. Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Nose is pretty weak, a touch of roasted malt. Taste is a bit more memorable, with bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Decent beer.

Pours dark with a mocha brown foam head that laces my glass. The aroma is malty, with buttery caramel, some smoke, chocolate, minor lactose notes, and roasted coffee. Tasting, I noticed a blend of chocolate and coffee bitterness. There was a nice mixture of sweetness and bitterness too. I enjoyed the coffee and chocolate flavor with a good malty backbone. As the finish fades in flavor and the booze comes through it was very pleasant and welcoming. Overall a damn good beverage and it was very drinkable.

Draft sample. The beer is a dark brown with a beige head of foam. The aroma has a lot of sweet chocolate and a complementary level of coffee roast. The taste is sweet and chocolaty. The coffee comes through more as an afterthought and in the finish. Bigger body and a moderate carbonation.

Pours dark black with big tan head. Aroma is yeast, roast coffee, chocolate, caramel/burnt sugar, and a touch of vanilla. The bitter roasted coffee dominates the taste, and itís not balanced well enough by the malt. Palate is smooth, but is a bit too carbonated and thin for my liking. Solid effort, but not very memorable.

On tap at HOTD. Pours a jet black color with a medium grey head. A big sweet toffee and chocolate nose. Light dark coffee, some nutty notes, caramel, roast, and licorice. Solid brew.

Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is fairly smoky with roasted malts and a little coffee. Taste is a little sweet and not too dry, fairly malty. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, and smooth on the palate. Overall a good porter.

Tap at Apex for Gigantic and Friends A: Opaque black, creme head, some lacing. N: Yeast, cocoa, a bit of sugary grape, touch of vanilla, big coffee and chicory, and roasty overall. T: Bitter and sweet, in a rather unhealthy proportion. M: Medium body, creamy carbonation, alcohol is hidden. O: Less than impressive Baltic Porter. Three Musketeers is far superior; I donít know why they chose to make this more of a stout.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2015 First was on draft April 10, 2015 in a plastic cup at Wonder Bar in Cleveland. Second was a unknown bottle date bought from Ale Emporium in Indianapolis, Indiana August 8, 2015 and enjoyed August 10, 2015 in an Indians tulip/snifter. I see it was released March 2015 so that is where I put the bottle date. Look - Dark and thick like coffee. Good lacing even in plastic cup. Creamy tan head with thick bubbles throughout. Bottle Edit - Fine to medium bubbles from bottle. Smell - Tootsie Roll. Bottle Edit - Bubblegum. Hops. Taste - Coffee, dark chocolate, burnt toast. Sweet bubblegum hits just before the finish and sticks around on the finish. Hint of smoke, not a camp fire. Feel - Creamy and not too watery. Doesnít explode as much as other beers. Overall - Great Baltic Porter from 3 Floyds. Unlike other porters it definitely differentiates from a stout.
