On tap at Mikkeller. It’s a black beer, topped by a nice, dense, beige head leaving lacings. The aroma has coffee and a sourish hint, as well as a good dash of dried fruits. Coffee and sweetness in the mouth, dryness too, and a little roasted maltyness. The lasting finish is more or less like the initial flavor, a bit less sweet though. Full-bodied. A really nice beer that goes in several directions style wise I think. Definitely a beer I’d like to revisit. 100508

Draught@Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Quite much black colour with a mediumsized off-white creamy head. Aroma is dark dry fruits, some slight roasted malts, caramel malts as well as some mild chocolate. Flavour is being quite much the same, in a rather sweet way. A bit sweet, otherwise quite nice.

Draft at FFF. Described as a Belgian Stout by the bartender, which added some confusion rating it. Served in a tulip glass. Pitch black body under a big, fluffy, beige head. Creamy chocolate aroma, maybe a hint of bitterness. Rich chocolate tones, quite creamy and full bodied. Sugary, almost lactic. Big, but retains a nice Porter-like quality.

Pours a deep brown with a good head and good lace. The aroma is roasty with a good chocolate character. The aroma on this one is pretty simple but it’s also very nice. The flavor is roasty with a light fruity character. There are some smoky flavors and plenty of chocolate. The alcohol is very well concealed and in many ways this was quite a bit like a very nice regular style porter.

On tap at 3F Brewpub. Black. Sweet aroma. Lactose. Flavor is bitter, strong, roasted. Lovely mix of burnt toast, a little grainy, lots of chocolate.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours opaque, almost black, with a light brown head. Nose is roasty malts, some chocolate, caramel, toffee, and a light burnt bitterness. Very smooth with more roastiness, slight sweetness, lots of coffee and smaller amounts of chocolate and caramel. The alcohol only became apparent towards the finish. Finish is long, drying, with more roasty chocolate and coffee. Great porter.

Tap at Paradiso Georgetown. Pours pretty much pitch black with a medium brown head that leaves excellent webby lace. Aroma has beautiful floral hops, fresh tropical fruits, coffee, dark chocolate, very nice roastiness that is never ashy. Taste is chewy, hoppy, slightly spicy, with a creamy body, slight bitterness, a bit sweet actually. Really beautiful. Yummy yum yum.

Tap at Birreria Paradiso in Georgetown. A secret stash fro Barnaby’s last visit. Murky brown, beige head, massive lacing. Aroma of butterscotch. Taste has chocolate syrup, burnt espresso, with a bitter cocoa and pepper finish. Delicious.

On tap at the brewpub, and served to a tulip with a black/brown hue, decent, dark tan head foam, and clingy waves of lacing. Initially, the aroma was resiny bitterness that lightly blanketed the remaining notes of smooth, roasted malt, cocoa, and coffee. The flavor was a more expressive version of the aroma notes, plus a touch of smoke, and hints of molasses and toffee. With a nice balance of malt and hop, and well hidden alcohol potency, the mouthfeel was full, rich, and creamy. This brew was the highlight of my visit.
