Medium beige head. Nearly opaque black body goes dark red at edges. Harmonic chocolatey coffee aroma with earthy pine needle notes. Dry-sweetish Belgian yeast profile and roasty chocolatey taste with floral earthy notes. Light body. Mild mouthfeel. Dry earthy funky chocolatey aftertaste with coffee and burnt grain notes. Sampled at the 3 Floyds event at the Brickskeller. Pours a lightly viscous, opaque black with a very cloudy, beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, light burnt toast, sweet, licorice. Flavor is sweet, toasted breads, raisin bread, dried fruits, licorice, light cherry. Full bodied, sweet finish. Brewing this with a lager yeast really let the malts shine through.

Enjoyable taste profile with caramel malts, hints of tart, dark fruits, liquorice and some moments of herbal hops to a dry ending. Well balance, good drinking porter (Copenhagen, 08.05.2010).

On tap at the brewery, served in a tulip. Pours deep black with a tall, dense light brown head. The head slowly fades but leaves incredible lace! On the nose, lots of molasses with coffee, dark fruits and delicate notes of chocolate and vanilla. Very fresh. On the tongue, moderately honey-sweet throughout with coffee bitterness taking over at the end. The finish is long, smooth and mostly coffee. On the palate, full in body with soft carbonation and a creamy, ultra-smooth texture. Overall, this beer is very well put-together. It is beautifully presented with a dense, creamy head. The malts are very nice and effectively balanced with coffee, herbal hops and some earth. A delicious dessert beer. 2010-05-15
