3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at CBC, May 2012. It pours very dark ruby, with a medium beige head. The nose is charcoal, roasted malt, smoke, wood and a hint of dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, slight smoke, caramel, meatiness, burnt malt and wood, with a dry-roasty finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Well-hidden alcohol. An easy drinking Baltic Porter, if a little bit unexciting.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted malt, light char, apple, raisin, coffee, toast, molasses, floral, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors with moderate fruitiness. Taste of dark chocolate, coffee, light char, roasted malt, raisin, apple, toast, molasses, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, coffee, light char, light fruits, molasses, floral, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance, robustness, and complexity of roasted malt flavors with fruity esters; with minimal cloying sweetness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Baltic porter. Very nice balance and complexity of robust roasted flavors with fruitiness; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Deep brown body with a frothy, beige head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of smoke, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, sweet plum, tobacco and alcohol. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Chocolate, coffee, roast taste is balanced with some sweet caramel and a hint of dark fruit. Some peppery alcohol combined with a note of grapefruit bitterness round out the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Nutty, sweet chocolate, and mocha aroma. Deep mahogany with a small tan head. Black licorice, roasty coffee, sweet chocolate flavor with a light roasty bitter finish. Medium full body, soft carbonation. Nice to get a FFF’s without the predictable signature hop thing that they usually have going on.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ive had this several times and actually had a different opionion each time. This is a bottle from the october release. Black pour minimal head. Aroma is bittersweet malt. Has more traditional english porter malt taste. Had this fresh bottle and tap and there was a lot of coffee and now it pretty much dissapeared.

he taste holds notes of roasted malts, bitter dark chocolate, yogurt (straight plain, y’all), flowers, pine, light mint, and balsa. Somehow, all of these components combine to form a nice, hoppy-ish Baltic porter. The body is a solid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a pretty dry finish. Overall, a very nice Baltic porter, one that shows that you can add some hops to the style without completely ruining it.
