Mahogany tinted deep brown/black under a wispy mocha head... promising looks. Slightly grainy aroma with a high intensity of milk chocolate. Full and heavy mouthfeel, lightly sugared, carrying big dark chocolate malts, semi-sweet with an ending of roasted, husky bitterness. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Old notebook, rating reads "@ FSRB Curse Release", sample courtesy of a fine gent who brought some growlers to share.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark with a mocha brown foam head that laces my glass. The aroma is malty, with buttery caramel, some smoke, chocolate, minor lactose notes, and roasted coffee. Tasting, I noticed a blend of chocolate and coffee bitterness. There was a nice mixture of sweetness and bitterness too. I enjoyed the coffee and chocolate flavor with a good malty backbone. As the finish fades in flavor and the booze comes through it was very pleasant and welcoming. Overall a damn good beverage and it was very drinkable.

Draft sample. The beer is a dark brown with a beige head of foam. The aroma has a lot of sweet chocolate and a complementary level of coffee roast. The taste is sweet and chocolaty. The coffee comes through more as an afterthought and in the finish. Bigger body and a moderate carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark black with big tan head. Aroma is yeast, roast coffee, chocolate, caramel/burnt sugar, and a touch of vanilla. The bitter roasted coffee dominates the taste, and it’s not balanced well enough by the malt. Palate is smooth, but is a bit too carbonated and thin for my liking. Solid effort, but not very memorable.

Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is fairly smoky with roasted malts and a little coffee. Taste is a little sweet and not too dry, fairly malty. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, and smooth on the palate. Overall a good porter.

Tap at Apex for Gigantic and Friends
A: Opaque black, creme head, some lacing.
N: Yeast, cocoa, a bit of sugary grape, touch of vanilla, big coffee and chicory, and roasty overall.
T: Bitter and sweet, in a rather unhealthy proportion.
M: Medium body, creamy carbonation, alcohol is hidden.
O: Less than impressive Baltic Porter. Three Musketeers is far superior; I don’t know why they chose to make this more of a stout.
