3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice dark brown pour, brown head. Flavor is sweet but with plenty of dry and hoppy notes on the finish. A nice mix of chocolate notes, licorice and then the dry finish. Enjoyable brew.

Bottle. Pours black with a thin khaki head and lots of lacing. Nose is incredibly hoppy. Some coffee notes are evident. Taste opens with piney hope, fading to oats and coffee and finally vanilla. Palate is rich and smooth. Really delicious.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle, sent from StFun (thanks a lot, Josh), pours black with a medium foamy tan head. Nose brings out loads of fresh green hops galore, a bit of cocoa, a bit of bitter coffee, and a bit of chalk. Flavour brings out shitloads of fresh green hops and loads of slightly burnt coffee duking it out to fight for the forefront, with a bit of bitter cocoa in the back. This is basically a cross of a stout and black IPA. Super pungent on the hops, but without the harshness of many black IPAs. Full-bodied, bringing the best of both styles to the table. Great stuff.

Thanks jbickus! Black pour with a creamy tan head. Roasty, earthy aroma with touches of coffee beans and piney hops in the back. Dry, bitter cocoa nibs up front fading into roasted malts with coffee with a spicy pine hop kick at the end. Medium bodied and a trace of alcohol. Pretty solid.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to rbrazell! Pours a translucent brownish black with thin ring of lacy tan head. Aroma of piney hoops and roasted malts, taste is more of the roasted malts and coffee. Thin on the mouth, almost more like a big black IPA than a stout to me, but solid.

Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark chocolate bittersweet flavor and moderate to heavy complex dark bittersweet finish of Moderate to long duration. Solid complex beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle picked up from the brewery post-DLD ticket sales (Munster, IN). Pours a blackish brown hue, darker and opaque, more black as I get a better look. Touch of ruby midnight edges show some life. Cakey medium brown head atop settles as a firm layer, laces well. Aromas are a bounty of hops, piney and grapefruit ridden. Firm resiny pine and florals meet some mellow roast, black malts, biscuits. A touch of sweetness, the hop profile is quite firm and certainly leads this one. Some carmelization, toast, and mellow sweet caramel and toffee, touches of cocoa meet that decent roastiness, black malts and strong hop elements. Initial is firmly bitter up front, grapefruit and citrusy hop elements hit at first, a firmer bitterness that settles quickly into a more stouty middle, some caramel, darker malts, and biscuits meet some nice dry and bitter elements. A decent roastiness, some dark cocoa and some resiny bits. The backend is where this beer starts to shine for me, offering more bitter resiny hops, florals, a touch powdery and dry. A lighter body overall as we move through, making this quite drinkable but perhaps making the hops even more of a focus. Some cocoa, carmelization, and sweetness latch on as we finish up. Decent roastiness finishes up with that malt element, but still a good bitterness from that brunt off hops. The nose really offers a lot here, the front being fruity hop driven and moving quickly back into a hoppy stout niche. Overall, it’s a touch underbodied for me but still a pretty nice beer. At times the hops overwhelm the base but at others those elements poke through and provide some semblance of balance. Solid beer. I’d call it somewhere between a Black IPA and a Stout though (Which I don’t have a problem with).
